'You're doing it exactly the wrong way': Chris Wallace shreds Joe Manchin for enabling GOP 'obstru

IMHO--Manchin will stay in his own world of trying to be a hero. I have no hope for him changing his mind. He is too dug in.

"You said you oppose scrapping the filibuster," Wallace noted. "The question I have is whether or not -- and you say that you hope that will bring the parties together -- the question I have is whether or not you're doing it exactly the wrong way?"

"Hear me out on this," the Fox News host continued. "If you were to keep the idea that maybe you would vote to kill the filibuster, wouldn't that give Republicans an incentive to actually negotiate because old Joe Manchin is out there and who knows what he's going to do? By taking it off the table, haven't you empowered Republicans to be obstructionists?"

"I don't think so," Manchin said cautiously. "Because we have seven brave Republicans that continue to vote for what they know is right and the facts as they see them, not worrying about the political consequences."

The West Virginia senator insisted that many of his "Republican friends" agree with him.

"I'm just very hopeful and I see good signs," Manchin said. "Give us some time."

Wallace interrupted to point out that Republicans had recently used the filibuster to kill a commission to examine the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

at least try to challenge GOP. He seldom devolves into emotional anger ( like I do , but at least he tries.

He's probably one of the very few newsmen that have access to interview these crazy people. Not like they go on MSNBC all the time.

Collecting a nice salary, with all the other perks and obstructing bills which he doesn't want to explain to his donors. Even his wife was given a cushy seat on a White House Commission. Jeeze.

For him, it's a Win-Win.

Which means we need to do everything in our power to overwhelmingly elect more Senators for contested seats by a significant margin.

A margin which will diminish the four current naysayers on our side, counting for possible defections of Sinema and Manchin.

A challenge that will even be more difficult given the ridiculously restrictive and suppressive voter laws in countless states since 2020.

It's going to be hard, but it's the only thing I can see to get these things done before the end of Biden's first term.

How many Democrats are voting for all of these awful bills at the state level.

If bipartisanship is so fucking important, maybe he should consider what is happening there.

is a simpler explanation, which is that Manchin does not prioritize voting rights. He will be fine no matter who is in power, so why should he bother himself with it?

I like talking filibusters. I think they are a great way to draw attention to you cause and almost heroic. What we have now is just minority obstruction. Placed no burden on anyone to make an argument, propose a counter bill, etc. it sucks.

This isn’t theoretical at this point. Real laws have been passed in many states.

And it doesn’t seem to matter to Manchin. In Georgia, the republican-led legislature can replace a local election board at their pleasure. This is aimed at the most democratic parts of the state. The GOP will step in and not certify an election until some nonsense “audit” happens.

And there is nothing the people can do about it without an assist from the federal government.

The Supreme Court has already laid the groundwork for turning away challenges to state laws. There are a number of cases where the justices have said that elections are the domain of states, which is what I predict they will say when Georgia throws out votes.

Anyone with common sense can see its totally arbitrary. Why not make every vote have to be all 100 Senators for goodness sake?

This 60 vote nonsense is completely senseless. So don't bother having a democracy then because this is certainly not democratic in any way.
