We always hear the line that big city elites look down upon the so called hard working, Jesus loving, America loving, rural areas
.and that Democrats and liberals need to understand them and stop stereotyping them and treating them as flyover country, but in reality its the opposite, these people look down upon the diverse, tolerant, progressive big cities
.always labeling them crime ridden, drug ridden, homeless ridden, etc
just look at the comments in this twitter thread

(26,044 posts)...they always despise "big gubmint" and declare local sovereignty paramount...except when it comes to using their own powers to crush local sovereignty when liberals practice it.

(1,666 posts)Have the same thought process about gun control; ignore it. Theyll point out blue states ignore federal weed laws.
So I guess we are really at the point that either side will refuse to enforce laws they dont like, and their local sheriffs will go along with it. In red states, that would make enforcing a gun ban almost impossible when local law wont turn people in for guns they themselves privately own and go shooting and hunting with all the gun nuts in their local small towns. Basically mimicking making enforcing federal immigration laws very difficult for the feds.

(32,626 posts)we took a trip to visit people in Nashville. We went out to this one bar that had live music. So we're sitting at a table and the guy on the stage looks down at us and asks us where we're from, my friend says New York...and the guy says 'Welcome to the United States'. I didn't quite get it, but I sure do now.

It is disgusting. Without a doubt Texas has some of the worst elected officials in America. But the rural parts of Texas keep putting them back in office. He (Abbott) is calling a special session of the lege to deal with gerrymandering so I suspect it will get worse.

(7,606 posts)(until the demographics change even more) is that the young people and Hispanics, who have the numbers, begin to vote in larger numbers.
We are in a catch 22 here - because the Texas economy depends on fossil fuels (about 40%) and although anyone in their right mind know that it is a dying industry they worry about their jobs. Because we do not have a electric grid that can connect to much of the wind/solar in Texas and the gooberment is doing everything possible to discourage sustainable energy so no interest in financing it by the suppliers or State government.
Just another example of why we need a federal infrastructure bill that require a smart grid and forces Texas to connect to the East/West grid whether they (politically ERCOT) like it or not.

(7,606 posts)don't need anyone, that we can/should secede from the union, that they actually believe it and therefore refuse to take any kind of logical and progressive move to change our way of life that will bring us into the 21st Century.
I fully expect that for at least the rest of my life Texas will stay podunkville. Assholes.

The GOP reminds me of a bunch of school yard bullies. The kind destined to be D student 9th grade dropouts.

(13,180 posts)I wonder why I never see that talked about. What happens when producers treat their customers like they're enemies and not customers? I hear the phrase, "support the family farm" now and I think, "why should I support a bunch of ravening Trumpies who look down on city/metro people and try to take their right to vote away?"
Let "family farms" be gobbled up by corporations, I say. Take away all subsidies and government support. Take away the compensation for Trump's trade war. They voted for all of that. If they don't want to support their customers in the metros and cities, we'll buy our goods from everyone but them.
Now where's a restaurant that buys its supplies only from agricultural corporations with environmental commitments, D&I, advancement for women, and didn't give a penny to Trump? Sounds like a good place to have dinner.
