5 years ago I recommended that this disgraced General be prosecuted in military court. Ultimately prosecuted in VA. Proud to have played a role in this case at the very beginning. Accountability, no matter how long it takes must come in a just society.

every retired officer goes through it. For most, a formality, but for those that commit crimes or bad acts, they have the power to lower your retirement rank all the way down to 2nd Lieutenant.

“The Secretary of Defense changed the retired grade of then-Major General James J. Grazioplene, United States Army Retired, to second lieutenant after determining that second lieutenant was the highest grade in which he served on active duty satisfactorily,”

Highlighting is mine.

This sounds like what would be a mild punishment for having a consensual adult affair as an officer.

It sounds like less than a slap on the wrist for a sex crime.
At least the local justice system got him jailed for a while, though his sentence was suspended.

to the lowest, that of a second lieutenant. That's quite a reduction in income.

had expired so there is nothing the military could do to put him in the brig.

This reduction probably cut his retirement pay by 95%

And of course, he will be a pariah, one hopes.

It happens when you retire. See my post above.
Once retired he'd have to be recalled to duty again first.
