I lived in an area decades ago where we had cicada summer. I have NEVER seen anything like it before in my life. One day, we were just swarmed, which continued for several weeks, and then, a few weeks later, they were all gone, all of a sudden.

And, yes, I had them in my car. I feel sorry for this person, but, for me, they never caused any harm. There was something quite remarkable about my cicada summer, and it was a perfect example of the power of nature.

The cicadas had a much later start around here, but the daily increased volume of their shrieking can't be ignored. There's clearly lots of them already. I'll probably see several of them awkwardly flying around soon enough, like 17 years ago.

With warner weather, they can sometimes get caught in heat convection currents high into the sky too.
