(38,638 posts)Even if it body shaming via a proxy.
It is disappointing to see it continue to crop up on DU.

(38,638 posts)Or in the articles outside of DU?
I've seen:
1. He's wearing a diaper (body shaming/ableism)
2. He wet his pants (body saming/ableism)
3. He pooped his pants (body shaming/ableism)
4. They have an elastic wasitband
5. He put them on backwards (mental ability shaming)

I say have a good laugh at his expense.

(38,638 posts)People I love, including a (now adult) foster son who is about to undergo lifethreatening surgery to - if he is lucky - alleviate the need to wear diapers. If he is not lucky, the surgery may kill him.
Do you really not understand that using weight, disabilities, etc. as an insult is only insulting when it reinforces the societal condemnation of people based on weight or disabilities? No one uses a good head or hair, toned body, etc. as an insult.
I am not defending Trump - feel free to insult him for anything other than characteristics that are stereotypically condemned - AND - shared by people on our side of the aisle. I am defending all of the people like my foster son - and likely my daughter (who has the same disease) in a few years.

Horseface, Lowlife, Fat, Ugly: How the President Demeans Women
President Trump has a history of attacking women by mocking their bodily functions, demeaning their looks or comparing them to animals.
snip
Mr. Trump has accused women of having fat, ugly faces and of repelling voters because of their looks. He called one woman a crazed, crying lowlife and said another was a dog who had the face of a pig. He said Hillary Clintons bathroom break during a 2015 presidential debate was too disgusting to talk about. He has repeatedly mocked women for being overweight.
snip
The president often expresses his ire by comparing women to animals, an effort to dehumanize his opponents that he also uses against men.
After his former aide Omarosa Manigault Newman published her tell-all book, Unhinged, Mr. Trump responded by calling her that dog and a crazed, crying lowlife.

(38,638 posts)don't idolize the abhorrent behavior of trump enough to imitate it.
Body shaming - regardless of whether the target engages in it himself - hurts everyone who sees it who has ever been the victim of it.

(38,638 posts)When you express disgust at someone who is obese?
Bettie
(19,704 posts)So, my body is likely "shameful" to you as well.
So, I'm a blob in shorts and a t-shirt this morning? Nothing more. Nothing of value, simply because the size of my body doesn't conform to your aesthetic?
Sorry you have to put up with this on a site that purports to care about people. I guess we only care about the "right kind" of people
Bettie
(19,704 posts)Living in a fat body, you get used to it and you grow a thick skin.
Body size isn't a measure of worth or virtue. That's the thing I always keep in mind, even if others don't believe it.
Now tailoring and the fabric in those pants? Choices, very bad choices, no matter what the size.
Ms. Toad
(38,638 posts)And had this entire uproar had started with tailoring and fabric choice (rather than weight, diapers, fat, and dementia) my reaction would be very different.
Coming after the fact, as a rationale for bdoy shaming, it rings hollow.
Bettie
(19,704 posts)plus body shaming/disability shaming are low hanging fruit.

Or maybe not. Sigh.

(10,877 posts)I have weight issues now. But don't feel any hurt when it's hurled at the Dotard.
Of course when it comes to weight, the body shaming is supposed to be OK because it's all about your health and supposedly all your own fault. There are plenty of wishes on DU that the Dotard continue his terrible eating habits in the hope that it kills him. Not everyone who has weight issues eats poorly (I don't) but with the Dotard is is apparently mostly down to his habits.

(38,638 posts)there are some who don't find being used a battering ram offensive.
The fact that not everyone in that group is offended doesn't mean it is OK to use the group as a battering ram.

(82,383 posts)is up to society in general. It does not seem that this issue has become so weighted (no pun) that it is unacceptable, even to a board as liberal and PC as DU. At least when hurled at right wing politicians.
The N word and such has become that way. But not fat comments.
Ms. Toad
(38,638 posts)That is essentially what happens here, and some minority groups are favored more than others.
We should not be endorsing fat shaming, merely because it is tolerated - any more than we should endorse race shaming - should it become tolerated at some point in our future.

Perhaps he let it go to his head about the combat exaggeration (well, Secretary CLINTON said she dodged bullets), but the big discrediting of him based only on that was (my humble opinion) too much of a come-down. He's smart, smooth, and spot-on.

(4,981 posts)Brian Williams exaggerated some stuff, got in trouble, was dumped as NBC Evening News anchor, paid his dues and is on MSNBC where he seems to be doing just fine.
The best thing about that whole mess is that it elevated Lester Holt to the plumb anchor spot. He may never have gotten that chance without Brians inadvertent help.
Thats how I recall it played out. Yea, Brian is a bit tarnished in my eyes now but I still am interested in what he has to say when I watch MSNBC.
Not sure what you mean by Trump hating hypocrite.
