Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) warns on Twitter:
During the Obama administration, folks thought wed have a 60 Democrat majority for a while. It lasted 4 months.
Democrats are burning precious time and impact negotiating with the GOP who wont even vote for a Jan 6 commission. McConnells plan is to run out the clock.
Its a hustle. We need to move now.

Anything really focused on some part of his state? Something he wants BADLY? WHATEVER IT IS, hold it hostage if he wont give on S1.
Identify the carrots AND the sticks. And work both like theres no tomorrow.
Also maybe something in oppositional research might be useful to convince him that he better rethink his opposition. Anything in his background - OR involving a friend or family member - that hed rather keep a lid on? This is unfortunately not the time to go easy OR be nice OR pull punches.
What can we use? BOTH in a positive AND a negative way? Now is NOT the time for business as usual. Mainly because we do not have the time, PERIOD.
Does he have a favorite celebrity? Somebody his kid would be dying to meet and get a photo with, or hang out with? Maybe get a small walk-on part on a BIGTIME favorite TV show - or movie???
Lots of push-and-pull ideas that should be examined and potentially made use of.
Know the enemy. Get inside his head and find where the buttons are that we can - and should start pushing. Sweeten things for a yes, and present quite the opposite for a no.
AND start looking for an ace in the back pocket. Who do we know among West Virginia Dems who might make an appealing replacement?
And theres also the funding thing. How can we work THAT to our advantage? S-1 for the GREATER GOOD.

Get statehood for Washington DC! Maybe also for Puerto Rico. Theyve proven their worth and theyve certainly waited long enough.
Sneak it into some minor bill the GOP really wants, if you have to. Buried down in the lower middle of the text, and all the quibbling is over, and preferably as close as possible to the last minute.
WHATEVER MIGHT WORK.

(5,072 posts)Any bill that we can pass with without the filibuster has to initiate in the House, because all budget bills must start in the House for some reason.
The house will send the bill to the senate in paper and digital form
Members have staffers search the PDFs for key words
If the Senate change anything or add anything, it will be put in digital form for [link:the https://www.senate.gov/reference/glossary_term/conference_committee.htm|conference committee]
Adding a state to the union would have a lot of key words that would hit

(90,021 posts)Time to put on the ol thinking cap and generate even more ideas.
Much better to ask well, what CAN we do about it? and start figuring out some strategies and approaches that might be workable.
Or I guess we could just sit on the sidelines and wring our hands and bemoan how bad Problem X, Y, or Z is
I always find myself wondering what I could have done or might have done or done better about some problem that came up - especially if I blew an opportunity to maybe, just maybe make (or help toward) a positive change.
Its that old saw about one little candle or cursing the darkness.

And yes, elected Democrats should know that. That's why so many are thinking 'what the hell are you waiting for? we've seen this over and over'. If they know it, why not act like it?
Me.
(35,454 posts)but guess what...according to recent polls the American public does and all this criticism is discouraging in a 'why should I bother' way.
but it's nowhere near as discouraging as the inaction (perceived or otherwise) that leads to the criticism and the 'why bother' feeling.
No one could say "Democrats did nothing but COVID" if it were clearly a brazen lie. Posters here are aware of what is going on. Most of the public pays little or no attention . That's why that kind of lie can work. And it's why Moscow Mitch blocks everything. Democratic policies are good for the average person instead of corporations and the rich. So he has to keep blocking everything. And a lot of people will fall for the lie, because they don't know the reason so many things didn't get done was that republiqons stopped it, not that Democrats didn't try.

(29,078 posts)Writes fundraising emails using the same words all the time. A script. Their supporters like it:
Their big enemy are corrupt "corporate Democrats" (who will stop at nothing to prevent progress because they're complicit with and paid off by corporations, billionaires, special interests, lobbyists, corporate PACS, Wall Street, Big Pharma, the oil and gas industries, the ruling class, the donor class, the 1% -- the list is really endless). Naturally there's no evidence of this supposed corruption. Democrats are also called the liberal elite, coastal elites, wealthy elites, any flavor of elite. They only pretend to want progressive legislation but are same as Republicans (Republicans rarely make an appearance in the emails, they are irrelevant).
Democratic Establishment (the word "progressive" means anti-establishment with Democrats being the establishment they are fighting against, "taking on" and so forth because the establishment will stop at nothing to prevent Justice Democrats' success). Any Democratic organization like the DNC or DCC (Third Way, it goes without saying) are enemies who will stop at nothing to prevent, etc.
The goal is to transform the Democratic Party, purge it of corporate Democrats and the Democratic Establishment, elect Justice Democrats (the movement, revolution). Transformative policies. FDR transformative. Transform is an important word.
Status quo. Neoliberals.
Working class. Progressive are the only ones fighting for the working class. Working class, working class, working class. These are really the most important words.

Justice.

If there is no undue corporate lobbyist influence within the Democratic party, even with those that have been there for decades already, then what is the harm of denouncing that undue influence on Washington in general, including for Republicans? Folks that are against that undue influence, are not against the Democratic party, they are against the unfair quid pro quo system that has existed for many decades. It is non-partisan. And to be fair, does not exist exclusively in the USA.
FoxNewsSucks
(11,704 posts)from pretty much all of them. They're all fundraisers and I can't afford to send money every time I get one. And whatever group sends out the hysterical hair-on-fire "msnbc DESTROYED!!!!!!!" "rachel maddow GOING DOWN!!!!!!" type email completely turned me off of ever reading them.
I'm sure they're repetitive. Another poster put up a twitter from your favorite comm director, and I don't see anything wrong with it. How far back do I need to look at it to find something you think is bad? I'm not on the twitter or the facebook things, so they do not get to live rent-free in my head. Just sayin'.
I agree completely with the other post answering you. Corporations and billionaires own the corrupt Republican party lock stock and barrel. They hedge their bets by bribing, uh I mean "donating to", Democrats as well. Do you want to see the Democratic Party become totally beholden to them the way republicons are? I don't. That's the direction of "third way" or corporatist Democrats. Go ahead and deride that all you want, it won't change the underlying truth. I'll always support Democrats, liberals, and liberal Democrats who are on the side of people who work for a living. Why the hell would anyone do otherwise???
And finally, regarding the bleating about not bashing republicons enough - obviously you aren't paying attention. They do call out and condemn republicons sufficiently. After all, we already KNOW republicons are the enemy. It doesn't need to be said every time someone opens their mouth. Do we need to be told the sun rises in the east, or that bears shit in the woods every time someone sends an email or types a twit? NO!!!!!!! We don't. We know that.
What we do need to be reminded of is the insidious attempts to control OUR side. Anyone who doesn't like that, should maybe be doing some serious self-examination to determine why.

(29,078 posts)working people of this country need. They're unwilling to take on the fight because so many politicians take money from the corporate PACs and Wall Street CEOs that benefit from inaction."
"Nancy Pellosi's campaign and PAC donated more than 3 million dollars to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCC) this year ... to protect corporate-backed incumbents ... .The Democratic establishment sometimes seems like one big bucket of Wall Street and corporate PAC money, all going toward protecting the broken status quo."
Who are all these corrupt corporate Democrats who don't want to do anything for the people? Where is the proof that Democrats "take" money and then refuse to do anything progressive? They should give examples if they know who all these corrupt Democrats are. Or is it a faith-based thing like religion. Is Joe Biden corrupt? Kamala Harris? Bernie Sanders? Nancy Pelosi? They're the establishment. They've been bribed to stop progress? Since when have Democrats had large majorities in Congress to pass their policies easily?
The audience for the Justice Democrats' message have to be woefully ignorant of how government works and history. They fall for conspiracy theories about everyone being bribed and immoral, rigging, plotting, enemies everywhere. Then are asked to donate money, of course. Small amounts, please, because that's "grassroots." Anything larger is a bribe. All it does is encourage hate for the Democratic Party and that helps Republicans. Enough is enough.

You do the math.
I see nothing wrong with those quotes. If Democrats are influenced by money, the problem is NOT that they are being called out, the problem is the money in the first place. If you don't understand that, there is nothing more to be said. It's getting like arguing with a MAGAt down at the Y. Facts seem not to matter.
Bottom line is, I don't want corporate or billionaire-funded Democrats. THis country already suffers for having a political party owned by them, we can't afford for them to control both parties. I can't imagine why anyone would want that.
