(7,016 posts)But everyone who was involved in this fascistic travesty, and every other misuse of that Department. Once they testify, and appropriate evidence gathered, an independent counsel needs to be authorized to empanel a grand jury for prosecutions in this matter and every other instance in which Trump and his lackey-lapdog Barr misused the Department. Obviously the Justice Department cant investigate itself, and it is thoroughly corrupted.
Mr.Bill
(24,906 posts)the Biden administration. As recently as a few weeks ago. The thing is, Biden can be believed if he says he knew nothing about it, because he has always said he wont tell the DoJ what to do and what not to do. He wants them to be independant.
It doesn't look good for Garland, though.

(7,016 posts)To say the least. Time for a serious course correction before his tenure, that Department, and the country is irrevocably harmed. As the Boston Globe series, Rachel Maddow and the experts who are warning our democracy is seriously imperiled have all emphasized, if these practices arent forcefully repudiated both publicly as President Biden did, and by criminal prosecutions that send the message these things are absolutely intolerable in our democracy, they will return to haunt all of us with a vengeance.

(7,016 posts)But as head of that office he has to demonstrate, through concrete publicly visible actions, that he is going to tackle this problem head on and that the crimes and wanton lawlessness of the prior criminal gang, masquerading as an administration, will be punished. He would do well to follow RFKs example of how an AG reminded people exactly of what the office stands for and what it will do to ensure that the nations laws are enforced on the peoples behalf.

(24,399 posts)The traitors near-certainly used all they learned in 2017 and 2018 about Schiff and Swalwell against them in 2019 and 2020. I doubt Barr would stop spying on the Democrats investigating the Russia Thing until he had to. It was a most effective weapon for Barrs criminalization of Democracy and the institution of fascism.

(32,335 posts)there are still Sessions/Barr holdovers in the Justice department who are still working. The Justice department has been fighting to get NY Times reporters data as late as last week. That doesn't mean that Garland is even involved, it could be Barr holdovers.
One thing I hope that we can all agree on is that people need to be subpoenaed and we need to get to the bottom of this.
Going after phone records of members of Congress has never been done before, only under Sessions/Barr. Who Okayed this?

(3,431 posts)Trump committed a crime everyday and hasnt faced justice for anything. Just this week sworn testimony by the White House Legal Council revealed that Trump obstructed justice and there has been nothing proposed as punishment.
Are we all just going to wait and see on what Cy Vance comes up with?

Why is Merrick Garland defending Donald Trump?

Garland's Trump defamation lawsuit decision might be legally defensible. It's also wrong.

It was argued on MSNBC tonight that it is not in the legal purview of the DOJ to do this.

We are going to learn what Attorney General Merrick Garland is made of by the way he handles this situation. He must do more than say it is awful. This is prosecutorial abuse at it worst and Garland must call it out for what it is intolerable behavior!

(21,288 posts)Sounds like Barr/DOJ apparently used gag orders the way TFG has always used non-disclosure agreements to keep people from talking. Apple's gag order expired and they spilled the beans. Wouldn't be surprised if there are more gag orders out there hiding more crimes.
