The latest charge against the Trump Administration seems like a gigantic abuse of power? I guess it's too late to impeach him again? Can he be sued? Can AG Barr be held accountable?
It sounds "illegal" but we are told it may be immoral or unethical but there is no criminal penalty? Why is that?
It reminds us of the obvious breaking of the emoluments clause by doing business out of the White House. But it's not "illegal". It's required by the Constitution but it's not "illegal".
Or when he called the president of Ukraine to extort him into planting false stories about Joe Biden, the opponent he was most afraid of in the next election. But that wasn't "illegal". He could not even be convicted in an impeachment trial.
Or when he defended the Prince in Saudi Arabia after he had a Washington Post reporter murdered. We knew he didn't like Jeff Bezos but to assist in the murder of someone close to Bezos seems a tad over the top. But nothing "illegal".
His last act before grudgingly departing the White House was to incite an insurrection at our Capitol and attempt to overturn an election. But, as we all know, there was nothing "illegal".

It's why the GQP has no shame or fear of getting caught, along with their financiers. Why would they? No one holds them accountable and it's all swept under the carpet until the next "scandal."

It's a massive level of privilege Republicans enjoy. And we let 'em.

(815 posts)Well, it may be illegal but you will get away with it if you are a Republican.
Did Nixon answer for his crimes? No, he resigned but he didn't have to answer for them.
Did Reagan answer for his crimes? No, he was never held accountable.
Was George W. Bush ever held accountable for lying to send the country to war in Iraq and then torturing people when we got there?
Trump will never be held accountable. There are two justice systems in this country. If you are a Republican president you are above the law.

(300 posts)Even while a candidate, Trump set the bar exceedingly low. Had any democratic candidate been even suspected of paying women for sex or their silence, it would have been the end of their political career. When he was taped bragging about what he could do to women as a celebrity, I thought it was the end for him. His followers either didnt believe it or didnt care.
If there is no accountability for Trump or his obedient sycophants for crimes they committed while in office, anything goes for the future, including most likely our democracy.

Our DOJ seems uninterested in pursuing anything, well, anything except defending the former guy.
I'll believe otherwise when there is even a tiny bit of pushback on TFG. So far, just defense of him and his accomplices.
Oh, and for those who say "be patient". I used to believe in law and order, that the 'arc of the universe...justice' concept.
But, it appears that justice will never come for these assholes. Frankly, I wish I believed in a god so I could be comforted by the idea of them roasting in hell later on, because that is the only justice we're ever likely to see.
As someone who isn't filthy rich, I wonder what it's like to have no consequences for anything you do.

Apparently giant crimes are to big to prosecute, the actors too big to fail and too big to jail.
We are now seeing why Trump fought so hard against being ousted from the White House. He had nothing to lose by inciting an insurrection. The lights are now on in Trump's kitchen and the bugs are visible.
