FYI 32 people were shot yesterday in three mass shootings and when Congress returns to work on Monday half the members elected to protect the country won't give a shit.

I think its kind of an underrated fact that the animating forces right now on the right are 1) banning certain ideas from being taught 2) overturning elections.

(5,293 posts)Steve Scalise got shot by a crazy person with a gun, and when he got out of the hospital he comforted the "true victim": the NRA.

(11,563 posts)Mr. Schatz is also quite correct, although the meaning of "underrated" has to be stretched a bit to be of full use here. "Underreported" and "underdiscussed" are two others that have to be part and parcel of "underrated."

(156 posts)Since Newtown that the only way anything will be done is if a gunman somehow opens fire in Congress and kills a few of them. That is a horrible thought and I have told him so many times, but I am afraid he may be right. Kind of like the only way we will finally, totally be done with the FG is when he is no more. I am hoping for natural causes.

(16,370 posts)But I would alter that prediction to say that even a gunman opening fire in Congress might not work unless he kills a few Republicans.
The Democrats don't need to be convinced, and the Republicans won't care if he only takes out Dems.

(2,577 posts)As one of the people who had to sit with the Newtown parents on that gawdawful day, Chris Murphy has been fighting for common sense gun legislation ever since.
I just read his book The Violence Inside Us a month ago. Highly recommend.
