Dear friends. Do any of you have a medical device that detects falls?

My family bought me a very complicated device(in my opinion) made by Bay Alarm Medical. Although I see the need for the fall device for 'at home' falls, the watch that is made to detect falls anywhere is something I question as needed for me. It is bulky, black and looks like a divers watch. I will never wear it and will return it. I have the wrist alarm and wonder if I should have the unit that you wear around your neck.

Although I appreciate the concerns of my kids, this unit is bulky and unattractive. It is rated the 'best but there are other manufacturers that have a device that is almost as good per the ratings.
I will be calling them to arrange to return the watch(cost $185.00) and use just the unit for house falls. Wrist or neck unit? If you or someone you know has one of these alert buttons for home use, not the watch, can you share thoughts? Since I'm a computer idiot, I will have a family member set up the wrist or neck unit.

is very lightweight and I often forget I have it on. I did a lot of research on this and looked into the fall detectors. The reviews say that they often alert when there has been no fall, so I didn't get that. The set up for what I have is extremely easy and I have the transmitter in my kitchen, which is in the center of my house. Depending on your living situation, it's important that you know how long the signal will reach. After all, there is no sense having something around your neck that can't signal the main transmitter.

Also, make sure the service you get is not farming call to India or someplace out of the US. Maybe check with your local Fire Department/EMTs to see if they have any recommendations, I did.

I keep my phone with me at all times and my son checks in with me on a daily basis. If you have friends or family that will do that, great.

One true story: I have a friend who I have had for 60 years. Jokingly, as we got up in years, we made a pact with each other to check in with each other every day. One day, I couldn't reach her and checked with her friends. No one knew where she was. I called her local PD and asked them to do a welfare check. They did and found her on her bathroom floor. She had fallen in the middle of the night, passed out and had been there for hours. She was hospitalized but recovered and was pissed at me for calling the cops on her.
