(156,619 posts)It's a nasty disease, and it used to be the case that the diagnosis would come when the disease was entrenched in the body, and so was hard to get rid of.
I hope that's not the case with Christiane Amanpour.
Long life and great health to her!

(11,467 posts)Hysterectomy at age 50 and since I was so close to menopause at that point and since they had to do an abdominal hysterectomy anyways due to some quirks of my anatomy, I asked them to go ahead and remove both my ovaries at the same time. Partly to help with the endometriosis I was plagued by, but honestly mostly out of fears of possibly developing ovarian cancer in the future. Seemed better to just get rid of the things just in case.

(156,619 posts)I did exactly the same. I was not quite 50, but close enough.
I had fibroids the size of oranges and since I was going to have abdominal surgery anyway, I suggested to my doctor that we make just one trip inside, and take my ovaries too.
He thought about it for a moment, and then he agreed. It was a huge relief to get all of that done at one time, and not have to worry.
I have never regretted it!

(11,467 posts)Must have been relieved to just have it all out and no more pain. Although recovery from that surgery is a little hard, at least I thought it was.
I never regretted it either, I just wish Id done it earlier because I had so many problems over the years with bad endometriosis and adenomyosis which is kind of endometriosis of the uterus itself that causes bad pain and heavy bleeding.
Sometimes I think we women suffer more than our fair share of painful health conditions in life. But I know life is hard for everyone, male or female.

(156,619 posts)But oh boy did they bleed! I was working nights in Critical Care and sometimes it was difficult to get a bathroom break! I kept telling myself, soon all this will be in the past, and it was!
I got 8 weeks off from work and the last two were like a vacation! It made up for everything.
I'm glad you're past it too.

(10,412 posts)As a classical singer, it was important to maintain as much natural body function as possible. So I kept an ovary. However other issues started popping up like higher blood pressure and blood sugar. Though I'm not 100% sure the procedure caused these, it was nearly instantaneous.
I'm fearful for Amanpour. I hope they caught it all. I truly admire her tough questioning style and using her knowledge to push conservatives farther than Rose ever did.

(11,467 posts)Higher blood pressure and lower bone density too. Its like when I went into forced menopause, my body aged fifteen years overnight. I wasnt expecting the changes to be quite so immense.

(10,412 posts)My voice, skin, hair, eyes, all became like new. Yet BP and blood sugar weren't effected. All those decades of horrible cramps and migraine headaches became a distant memory though. What adventure.

(25,475 posts)What would treatment for ovarian cancer cost here (in the greatest country in the world?)
BigmanPigman
(55,137 posts)and that is a low estimate. You can't afford to live or die in this country....unless you are the 1%- who pay lobbyists to write the rules so they get even richer. Fuck the sick and poor. We are in the Gilded Age Part 2.

(11,467 posts)Q anon and conspiracy theories and blind rage and hatred. I feel as if too much pressure and fear have turned many people basically insane. It really frightens and worries me.

(55,137 posts)by being an obnoxious bully. Just look at how he acted when he went to the G7, etc. A total jackass and proud of it, as are his "deplorables". Hillary sure called that one correctly.

(221 posts)She hosts one of my favorite news programs, usually covers 4 topics in some depth and no commercials. Have been concerned when she was not on the show for several weeks, was hoping she was taking a break.

(5,722 posts)Christiana was on medical leave and would be back soon. I kept Googling but they accomplished secrecy until Christiane. Was ready to tell us herself.
Hoping chemo does its job and she ends up with a clean bill. Great to see her back but must say Bianna did an excellent job filling in.

(7,864 posts)She woke up in middle of the night in excruciating pain and barely managed to call her daughter. The tumor that she didn't know she had burst inside her.
She lived another couple decades before succumbing to old age.

(1,343 posts)and thrived! Diagnosed in their 60's and now both alive in their 80's. And the side effects of the chemo were much less than i dealt with (breast cancer).
I really admire Christiane and I'm happy that she gave a shoutout to the NHS. In our cases, not a penny out of our pockets through all our surgeries, treatments and 5-year follow-ups. Thanks to our "socialist" healthcare....... aka universal health insurance.
