.
A man pulled out a gun and shot and killed an Atlanta-area Big Bear Supermarket cashier over the store's mask policy, according to police. Two people, including a DeKalb County Sheriff's Office reserve unit deputy who was inside the supermarket working as a security guard, and the suspect, were also wounded.
"The subject pulled out a weapon and shot a cashier at the location," DeKalb County Sheriff Melody Maddox said, according to 11Alive. "The individual is deceased."
"Although details are not complete, authorities say that the male suspect was involved in a dispute with a young woman before he began firing at her inside the store," the spokesperson for the sheriff's office said.
There apparently was an altercation over the mask policy, which is clearly posted on the store's door.
"A witness, identified as Alan Williams, said a man walked into the store, struck the woman with a gun, then shot her. That's when the deputy and the suspect exchanged gunfire."

(5,727 posts)The customer was identified as Victor Lee Tucker, Jr., 30, of Palmetto, Georgia, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. The agency said preliminary information indicates that Tucker got into an argument with the cashier and left the store without making his purchase, but he immediately returned inside. Tucker walked directly back to the cashier, pulled out a handgun and shot her, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation wrote in the news release.
A reserve deputy, who was employed parttime for security with the store, exchanged fire with the suspect and both were wounded, the sheriff said. DeKalb County Police Department officers arrested Tucker as he was attempting to crawl out the front door of the supermarket, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation wrote in the statement.
Maddox said the deputy was hit twice by gunfire but was wearing a bulletproof vest and was taken to a medical center where he was in stable condition. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Tucker is also in stable condition.

(46,193 posts)The only thing that would make this scenario less likely up here is guns aren't part of the culture around here (NJ/NYC suburbs). But we've had customers go off (so to speak) on stupid things like opening a box/case of beer in order to scan its barcode. Nothing surprises me anymore.

(35,743 posts)Or lack thereof.
Some friends/neighbors of ours (I'm in NJ suburbs, too) thought they might want to move to FL for retirement. I mean, 16,000 a year in property taxes is a bit much.
They went to FL to look at real estate. The first conversation they got into was about guns.
The second conversation they were involved in turned to guns. At this point they cut the trip short and returned to NJ.
No way not ever is their new attitude toward those gun culture states.
So far no mention of moving (this happened 2 years ago), and hey, they can afford the $18gs a year.

(11,772 posts)that think he's cool. Maybe he's their Hero against masks and anti gun laws... A twofer. Plus, he killed a woman! Back-slapping all around for that one! Lord knows they all know mouthy women who need killin'!
Honestly, these sub-human men who abuse women, murder women... I would like to see their crimes upped to hate status. I am sick of seeing this shit get shoved under the carpet! Military rape, assault, murder... Domestic violence, murders of pregnant women... etc... All should be more severely punished. Hell, we can't even get equal pay.

(82,849 posts)Otherwise, he might have had to just go shopping somewhere else and piss and moan to himself about what a rhymes-with-witch the cashier at Big Bear was. But since he had a gun, he was able to end one life, ruin his own, and shoot a security guard a couple of times. God bless America.

(11,772 posts)After all, there's no bad guns... Good and bad people have guns; it's their right to have any gun they want, and when they murder innocent people, that's still cool, because... There's only bad gun laws.
