500,000 to 600,000 dead. Over 100,000 hospitalized at any given time. The country shut down. The economy stalled.
Then there is a miraculous vaccine that will protect you from the virus and turn everything around.
And they have to plead with people to get the shot? WTF is wrong with them?
The willful ignorance is truly astonishing.

But even if only the idiots themselves partially die off, it helps electoral results.

There needs to be more education directed at these underrepresented groups instead of wishing death on people.

(13,461 posts)Im sure some black and Hispanic people are wary about getting the vaccine, but they are also overwhelmingly the people working odd hours and often two jobs. Equipping vaccine vans and taking them to places of employment gives fast access that means people do not have to take time off from work.

I have no idea what today's vax rate is, it was 28% in April. Everyone we know was vaccinated in Feb, March fully vaccinated.
I received my DD, from the World Church in 1971 for a small donation to Greenpeace, think it was $25.00 Canadian.

I realize that my chances of being infected are slim and if that happens, it will be a mild case. However, I have grandchildren and great grandchildren who are too young to vaccinate. What if I was asymptomatic and then pass it on to one of them?

(914 posts)Everyone I know who is vaccinated fully understands vaccine hesitancy. I can't comprehend why some seem so completely confused over vaccine hesitancy. I will say that the confused group, promoting themselves as being pro-vaccine, are worse at promoting the vaccine than anyone.

(41,453 posts)I know people who've waited for hours outside a vaccine centre - sometimes several days running - in the hope that there would be leftover vaccines at the end of the day, that would be offered to passers-by, rather than allowed to go to waste.
I know a man in his 60s, who was offered the first jab in March five and a half miles from his home. Doesn't drive; didn't want to risk public transport; didn't want to risk any delay in getting the vaccine by waiting for a space at a more convenient location. So he walked the 11 miles there and back!
I just can't understand people who refuse it.
I had my 2nd jab 3 weeks ago,

(13,290 posts)Is ignorance contagious? It seems to spread quicker than COVID 19.
I'm old enough to remember polio, and how my entire junior high school student body lined up to get our vaccine-laced sugar cubes. Those were simpler times -- there were no anti-vaxxers picketing the school. Everyone recognized the benefit of getting vaccinated.
I wonder if the one-dose Johnson & Johnson can be administered by sugar cube?

(6,269 posts)the consequence of their ignorance. I won't allow myself to care about the consequences of their actions or inaction. Information, educational tools, and scientific proof are available to all. They can avail themselves of all proof mentioned. If after informing themselves and arming themselves with all that can 'save' them, all loved ones and innocent citizens of the general society and they choose not to...if they contract the virus and they die, they die.

it moves money to people who's money it actually is in the first place and since incentives are needed it is a fair incentive.
I recognize that it might not be politically tenable but let's start the evaluation with some questions. First is would it significantly improve vaccine compliance. I think real data would be needed before any decisions are made but I'll be willing to bet it would.

Starting July 1, any fully vaccinated person can enter to win one of five $1M prizes (or a college fund if you're 12-17 years of age).
You wouldn't think MA, as reliably blue as it is would have to resort to this, but there are areas in the state that aren't at all blue.
