(13,540 posts)some states telling people no need to wear masks (like California, where I live).
The ones who thought they wouldn't need to get a vaccine are now rushing out to get one.

(28,485 posts)I happen to be fully vaccinated, and I'm very happy not to need to wear a mask everywhere. I will gladly wear one where required, but it is so nice to feel free from it most of the time.

(3,209 posts)at least one shot by July 4.
If you know anyone eligible for a vaccine who hasnt had it, please encourage them to get vaccinated.

(50,994 posts)and need about 12 million more adults to get 70%. It's a bold goal and we're close enough to make a difference as long as everyone who wants a shot can get it. The others might experience the delta variant instead.

(76,119 posts)I went to a sub meeting Tuesday for one of the big districts. Their new policy is no hybrid model for junior high & high school. In-person must be vaxxed. No exemptions, other than legitimate medical reasons.
No vax, kids attend online.
They're expecting 90%+ compliance, based on parents' feedback.
If other districts (the smaller district in which I live is doing the same thing) are taking this hard line, I can see a huge uptick in that age group and older HS age (16-18) occurring.
Either way, 2 million vaxxed in a day is a good thing.

(37,182 posts)That's how you beat the virus. None of this folly like lottery tickets or prizes. Get vaxxed or stay locked up at home.

(76,119 posts)...of the junior high.
The real teachers were stomping their feet to get this. And they got it.
The hybrid thing was driving them nuts. They hated it.
Now that there's a light at the end of the tunnel, they don't want half measures to turn the light into a train.
How they'll manage the 100% online kids, i don't know.
Since that doesn't impact subs, it wasn't discussed.
Like I said, parents overwhelmingly wanted this solution too. Parents want it, teachers want it; it was bound to happen.
I also don't know how they're handling the younger kids. This session was strictly for those of us doing grades 7-12.
Last point: September/October is still good golf weather. So, I'd only be subbing rainy days. With all the districts I go to, it might not impact me until November.
I'll find out through the summer how the other 11 of 12 districts manage things. (The local one I already know. They're doing the same thing, pretty much.)

(3,868 posts)When people see they can get a direct reward they'll respond. $100 is big enough to get some folks to get off their butts and get the shot.

I was not in a mad rush because I'm pretty sure I had the damned disease. I couldn't sign up because my vision sucks and I can't get past that CAPTCHA horseshit.

(114,503 posts)The new strains aren't all that different. In any case, I did get the jab as soon as I could, a little extra insurance never hurt anyone.
I just wasn't panicking and hosing the mail and groceries down with bleach. Masks, distancing where possible, and good handwashing did the trick. It might not make good clickbait, but it works.
Here is a readable article from November. The only change is that now they're saying a year or more instead of six months of protection. https://www.msn.com/en-us/health/medical/people-with-covid-19-antibodies-are-protected-against-reinfection/ar-BB1bcouE
RNA viruses tend to be fast mutators. Eventually, coronavirus will mutate its way around immunity from having the virus and vaccines against it, but that is just not the case now. Whether it will mutate in a few years back into something more serious or will attenuate down to the other coronaviruses known to infect people keeps virologists up at night, but so far, it's just not happening.

(16,025 posts)We keep needing 60,000 more to get rid of restrictions but it's like they quit counting
BigmanPigman
(54,787 posts)store, bank, etc I have been in since the restrictions were lifted. In CA it is up to the individual business to decide if they want to keep the mask mandate in place and so far all are keeping it in place, for now.
I think the Delta strain will scare a few more maskholes into acting in their own best interests.

(37,610 posts)I started wearing my mask for everyone... Now, I wear it for the young children and those acting like them.
Maybe, soon I can stop wearing it at all.
