(Detroit Free Press) LANSING Michigan's Republican Party has become representative of the political fringe, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said during a national TV appearance Tuesday.
Whitmer, speaking about the state's Tuesday lifting of mask requirements and most other coronavirus restrictions earlier than planned, was asked her opinion on what the Republican Party in Michigan has become, considering:
* Michigan GOP chairman Ron Weiser said in March that Whitmer and fellow Democrats Attorney General Dana Nessel and Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson were "witches" who should be "ready for the burning at the stake."
* Michigan GOP co-chair Meshawn Maddock organized bus trips to Washington, D.C. for the rally that immediately preceded the deadly Jan. 6 Capitol riot and spoke at a U.S. Capitol rally on Jan. 5.
* Maddock suggested in May that Michigan should secede from the U.S "Brexit-style."
"This GOP in Michigan right now has really bought into, kind of, the fringe," Whitmer said.
"It's harder and harder for moderate Republicans to call the GOP home." ............(more)

(23,174 posts)that r voters can identify with any one of them and vote in spite of the other flaws, the criminal acts, the abusive treatment, is something I can see people doing. I think it is a damn shame that so many people in the U.S. have people in their lives that make traitor seem normal.
That being said, those r's who are steering the Democracy bus over a cliff so they can maintain power are looking more and more like a gang trying to cover up crimes, keep money coming in and getting away with anything they can. If I were an r, I would've left the party upon the first insult traitor spewed.

They miss their daily hate fix on Twitter. They're addicted after 4 years of 24/7/365 of multiple hate tweets. Right now, they are in the 'heroin addict vomiting his/her guts in the alley' stage of withdrawal.

(20,584 posts)She's such a fine Governor, but all the misogynistic, wanna' be soldier, neutered incels in Michigan's rural areas can't stand having an educated, strong woman trying to save them from their own stupidity. Some people are just too damned stupid to be alive.
With all apologies to Michigan Democrats, she's too damned good for Michigan. She belongs on the national stage, and I hope she decides to run for president some day, sooner, rather than later.
Just one New York man's opinion.

(28,705 posts)knowing that she, along with Attorney General Dana Nessel and Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson are leading my beautiful state.
I receive newsletters from each of them and am happy with their work and progress. Each are strong, intelligent and effectual leaders. I worry about their safety. I think AG Nessel would make a fine governor someday. I hope she considers it.
