Gov. Greg Abbott vetoes criminal justice bills, legislation to protect dogs, teach kids about domestic violence
Abbott vetoed 13 bills authored by Democrats and seven by Republicans. Twelve of the vetoes targeted bills that originated in the House, and eight were from the Senate.

It's a short article, so I'll just leave it at that. What is wrong with this guy?

(10,486 posts)even worse people that are running to replace him.
Sid Miller, Ag Commissioner, known for traveling to Okla. a few years ago to get a "Jesus Shot".
Allen West, who is a lunatic Uncle Tom who likes to tout his being a Lt. Colonel as a means to dismiss his utter nastiness and braindead philosophy.
George P Bush, who uses the Bush name to get elected, a true "carpetbagger" who only cares about getting elected so he will be attractive to a lot of Texas with their head up their ass.
Just to name a few of the shitload of degenerates we have available in Texas from the GOP - a lot more of course.
On the Democratic side -
I think Beto could beat him - but his comments on guns is definitely a negative. So many Texans prefer guns to SEX in this state it will be a challenge.
Matthew McConaughey is talking about running. I can't see him being anything except a Dem but who knows - not my idea of a good idea but this is 2021 and some strange shit is going on these days.
Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo would probably be the best candidate based upon her credentials but we have so many racists that will be a long shot.
Bottom line - Texas has become a state of "Hillbillies" where rural Texas wins elections and their goal is to make sure that we are the most WACKO state in the nation.
Sadly that is where I see Texas these days - such a damn shame.
Peace

(170 posts)Hopefully he can be defeated. I would prefer a Democratic governor, but a more sane Republican would be a step up. That's how I felt about Trump.

(10,943 posts)... he has physical challenges, I know. Sometimes people don't see the Blessings they have, so they want to make other people Miserable? Just my amateur psychology... Maybe I'm wrong and he comes by these bad opinions naturally.

(77,302 posts)The reason he's in a wheelchair is that a rotted tree fell on him when he was in college, jogging. He became a paraplegic and sued the property owner and landscaping company and got $15 millions. One of his first causes when he got into politics was to push through legislation putting a CAP on the amount of damages for such cases, $250 thousand. Iow, he got $15 millions, but everybody else can only get $250,000.
So can't be tough on him because the poor thing is in a wheelchair. -----Like the MENENDEZ wanted pity because they were ORPHANS.
Plus, his agenda has been guns and refusing Federal funds that help the needy, who are significantly Minorities in numbers. But he's got a killer smile and speaks in coherent sentences, so he's able to put a pretty face on his policies. And he travels to regions with Minorities, smiles at them, gets pics taken, loves mariachis, so Hispanics are gullible about him. Next biggest agenda item for him besides Denying everything and FatCat-ism, is: GUNS GUNS GUNS.
Plus, he's married to a Half-Hispanic, and campaigned about how she would be "the first Hispanic first lady." Well, that person is seldom seen. Her Mexican-American old mother was who did the majority of campaign advertisements, all about what a wonderful son-in-law he was. So can't be tough on him because the poor thing is married to a Hispanic.
*****So besides NOT voting, as BEGALA says ("Texas is not RED, it's NON-VOTING" ), Hispanics who DO vote do their voting AGAINST THEIR OWN INTERESTS, are so NEEDY that if some Oppressor SMILES at them and is married to one of them, why, they are ALL IN for that kind of Oppressor!!!!!!!!!! -------------Break out the mariachis!1

(3,851 posts)Youd think with all the physical pain and suffering he has gone though, he would feel empathy towards others, but I guess it doesnt work that way for Republicans. They just get meaner.

(59,875 posts)Personally, I think he still secretly harbors a grudge with the world for putting him in a wheel chair while all his pals are not. He acts as if he has an angry score to settle with everyone, and Texas are the most readily available victims.

(170 posts)Imagine if somebody in a wheelchair got increased rights and jobs for those who had disabilities?
Nope. Would rather create laws protecting abusers. Sigh.
