(Salon) The Republican-led Arizona election "audit," which recently has inspired a new echo in Montana, now faces opposition from a conservative talk radio who initially backed the effort and also fresh turmoil surrounding Cyber Ninjas, the previously unknown firm hired to carry out the audit.
With the audit entering its final days, conservative talk-show host Mike Broomhead told CNN anchor Pamela Brown over the weekend that his position on the audit had changed in recent weeks because Republicans had let the procedure become "biased" and overtly partisan in nature.
"I just think that they lost focus on being fair and unbiased," he stated on CNN. "I think they have allowed it to turn into a very biased audit, where they are speaking only to the people that already believed ahead of time that the election was stolen, and they haven't really produced any evidence to the contrary."
Broomhead had not initially argued that the election was stolen, but said he thought the audit would be a worthwhile measure to ensure confidence in the electoral process.
"This is not about politics for me," he told The Arizona Republic in mid-June. "It's not about right and left. It's about right and wrong. I'm an Arizonan, and I'm an American before I'm a Republican, but I'm proud of all three. I don't see the direction this audit is going as doing the state of Arizona or the country any good anymore. The goal of a transparent and unbiased audit is gone. You've either got to fix it or end it." .............(more)

(13,428 posts)Republicans were just fine with hiring an unknown company with NO EXPERIENCE in election auditing. The company's founder and Trump supporter, Doug Logan. was pushing crazy voting conspiracy theories long before his company was hired.
And now that the public has become aware of the shady and downright crazy doings in the Arizona audit, some are trying to distance themselves from this dangerous and disgraceful attempt to nullify a fair election and justify voter suppression legislation.
OOPS! Arizona Republicans don't like being exposed for the anti-democracy con artists that they are.

(115,406 posts)It was never meant to be an "audit". It was meant to prolong the process for the benefit of Donald Trump.

(4,477 posts)It was biased from the get-go. And everyone with a working brain knows it. It never was good for the State of Arizona.

I don't know why they thought any "reasonable person" (that's the term they use, right?) would take these crackpots seriously
AND
I don't know why they thought the courts would take this fraudit seriously.

(13,474 posts)They represented themselves as being from the county elections board. Of this is not already illegal, it should be. The DOJ issued warnings about this, and the group promised they were not doing it. They did it anyway. Warnings are useless unless there is punishment when they are deliberately violated. I know the DOJ has a lot on its plate trying to clean up the Trump mess, but damn this is frustrating.

(3,017 posts)They've had a stranglehold on my former state for years, and it shows. Their level of corruption is staggering. I used to live in Chicago, and there was an unwritten rule amongst the oligarchs: it was okay scrape a little something off the top of government contracts, just so long as things got done. Arizona never figured out that political posturing and chest-thumping had to be accompanied by some actual, tangible good thing being done. For them, it was always the grift. It seems like every ten years or so, the legislature would reach a critical mass of hubris and pull some truly blatant and stupid move like this. They never learn.

(27 posts)The trumpaloonies are beginning to see the problems a failed audit will cause to their election fraud crusade. If the legislature adjourns until next January, they will have time to distance themselves and never mention it again.

It was always evident this was a fraudit. Didn't need a lot of brain power to see that.
The Arizona Republicans want there to be fraud so bad, that they can't see the fraud that Doug Logan is perpetrating on them.
This farce is gonna stick to them for a long time to come.

Are you kidding? Are you insane? You think that was their intent? Is this more proof that self-delusions are the worst delusions?
Well, Michael, whats the next step? How are you going to go back to your conservative radio shit-show and explain this? And why are you still a Republican after EVERYTHING that has happened since last Nov. 3rd?
