The caller asked me what I thought about hospitals firing people if they refused to get vaccinated.
Let him have an ear full on that. Wanted to know why I didn't support a law to protect those who don't get vaccinated.
Then he moved on to critical race where he asked why I support teaching it. I told him we should be teaching our kids everything then teach them how to think not what to think.
He wanted to know if I would support a law to ban transgender people from using their "chosen" restrooms. I said where are they suppose to go.
He asked me if I was a conservative or progressive. I said does your chart have bleeding heart liberal.
He was quick to get rid of me at that point.

They hate it when someone screws up their routine.
Way to go!
I had one young lady crying one night. Every question she asked I gave an answer and a reason. When we got to one about health care she figured out that her husband and been lying to her for a long time. She said she was going to have it out with him that very night and started crying.
She thanked me for enlightening her and hung up.

(62,406 posts)From Alabama - she was young and had just had a baby. The father deserted her. So I always ask questions because I am curious if it is a job or are they a believer.
At one point I said "do you really believe this?" She said 'no' and started crying. She told me about the baby and how she wished she would have had an abortion but at the time she believed it was best to finish the pregnancy. After the Dad lit out, this was the only job she could get. Minimum wage of course. That was about 10 to 15 years ago.
I felt bad cause I was afraid he would lose her job, but lord what a mess she was in.

I've never been a conservative, but this demoralizes them a bit.

(21,714 posts)Growing up, you always answered the phone politely. Of course, it usually wasn't a telemarketer or somebody else trying to rip you off. I just don't want to deal with the crap any more.
If it is important, they can leave me a message. Can't remember the last time that a real message was left.

(852 posts)When I used to answer and agree to participate, they would try and lead you with lots of questions with the end result being the caller asking some outrageously stupid &/or loaded question, trying to illicit the response they were looking for.
Or, they would ask your opinion on this or that, and when you tried to state an opinion, they'd come back with "is that a yes or a no."
Now I just hang up or don't even bother to answer. (Caller ID can be a wonderful thing!)

Q: How do you double the value of a Trabant?
A: Fill the gas tank.
Q: Why are they considering a new Trabant model with two exhaust pipes?
A: So you can use it as a wheelbarrow.
Had to google Trabant, on the worst cars ever made list.

(94,503 posts)I've worked as a poller. Their job is to complete the polls and log them, so they get paid. They have a script to follow, which may include outlets for respondents who aren't providing responses that can be coded. They didn't care what your answers were, as long as they could finish the survey.

(3,471 posts)Because I'm too busy lobbying for a law to protect those who don't use toilets and just piss and shit on the ground.
"Why do you support teaching critical race theory?"
Hey, somebody has to tell Republicans what the heck it is....
"Would you support a law to ban transgender people from using their "chosen" restrooms?"
Weren't you listening to my first answer? I already gave you my solution for that problem.
"Are you a conservative or progressive?"

How to answer spam/telemarketer phone calls...
Keep asking: What is your name?
... until you get an answer.
What is your company/org name?
... until you get an answer.
What is your company/org address?
... until you get an answer.
What is your company/org phone number?
... until you get an answer.
What number can I get in contact with you?
... until you get an answer.
So what if they lie?
You're just going to hang up on them anyway.
Even better if you say 'sorry, not interested'.
.
Their time is also important to them.

"Why don't you support a law to protect those who don't get vaccinated?"
We have too much Identity Politics in this country, with all kinds of special laws for this group and that group and the other group... enough, already!
"Why do you support teaching critical race theory?"
Did you ever read school books from back in the Good Old Days? They made kids learn all kinds of stuff, whether they wanted to or not! Nowadays, everybody's a whiny snowflake who needs their "safe space" from anything that "offends" them!
"Would you support a law to ban transgender people from using their "chosen" restrooms?"
Aren't you listening? I just said we have too dadgum many laws already!

And then your data is summarized and statistically normalized.
What I'm saying is that it's not worth expending emotion over. A "HELL NO" with a 5 minute rant is recorded exactly the same as "no".
And if this was a Push-poll (which I think it was), the responses aren't even recorded at all.
It's about pushing a message, not listening.
