Sen. Barrasso tells Maria Bartiromo that "I talked to a number of members of the bipartisan group. They are all reluctant to move forward. They're gonna need more assurances from the president" that he won't use reconciliation to pass a second infrastructure bill.

(19,755 posts)they can on their own -- and if they delay long enough maybe nothing gets done at all. "Government doesn't work, and we're gonna show you how."

(11,062 posts)Republicans will eventually come out and demand the the reconciliation bill be first. Then if they don't like it refuse to vote for infrastructure bill and blame it on dems for putting too much spending in reconciliation.
I don't why it was necessary for Biden to announce he wouldn't sign infrastructure alone. Not that it will probably matter in the end, but why signal your intentions to these people at all?

(7,604 posts)He's just looking for a way to stop Biden's agenda. He'll lie to do it.
When Barrasso builds up a record of trust, then he'll have some gravitas. But he's been a loyal McConnell stooge for years and possibly decades. If he's been a McConnell stooge, then he thinks like McConnell, which means that if he can nix reconciliation, he'll ALSO abandon the bipartisan effort and stick it to Biden and the Dems.
THAT'S THE PLAN, FOLKS.
Pretend to be cooperative, then at the last minute, stick it to the Dems. Then the Dems can be called weak suckers and the GOP will declare victory for stopping Biden's agenda. It's just another way to own the libs.

(275 posts)Republicans don't want to link the two bills. Possibly voting for the bipartisan
bill but the Democrats are on their own for the other bill.
