Interesting historical fact: the state name "Idaho" was pulled out of thin air

Was not an Indian word or place name. Popped out of somebody's head when there was general objection to naming the territory/state after Thomas Jefferson.

The powers that be couldn't decide on a name, so they decided to draw letters out of a hat.

So some high muckety-muck drew out the first letter and announced "C, eh?"

Then the second letter, "N, eh?"

And then, "D, eh?"

I'll let myself out....
