(42,862 posts)It's a good object-lesson to illustrate the foolishness of being unwilling to compromise in search of the "perfect"... and being willing to starve one's self ---rejecting a slice of bread, or even a half-loaf--- because only a whole loaf of bread will do. Progress is progress no matter how small. As long as it gets us closer to the ultimate goal, then why would anyone intentionally do or say things to sabotage that progress? In the end, more times that not, the "all or nothing" philosophy results in achieving NOTHING and preserving the status-quo.

(76,704 posts)But where were they 8 months ago?
Biden is not the enemy. But, 8 months ago there was a squatter in the WH who was.
And, someone needs to explain to them that real life involves compromise to get something good. He didn't commit to ignore climate change. He just dropped it from this initiative.
Again, I'm glad these young people are involved. Their approach, however, is lacking.

someone follow the money.
George II
(67,782 posts)....will spin with the way money is raised and spent, and "traded". They make it difficult to, as you put it, "follow the money".
For example, in the 2019/2021 cycle:
Sunrise PAC gave Justice Democrats $180,000
Justice Democrats gave Sunrise PAC $130,000
Also, Justice Democrats gave Justice Democrats Unlimited $875,000
The founders of both organizations are "intermingled" with some of the same people involved with both, as well as other peripheral organizations.
Both committees are now "Carey committees, hybrid PACs/super PACs", meaning they don't have to disclose all of their contributors, i.e. "dark money". They're also permitted to have independent expenditure in favor or against candidates, a la the Koch Brothers.
So, when you see candidates say they don't accept dark money or money from Super PACs, take that with a grain of salt.
Won't get into the nitty gritty, but Sunrise PAC contributed to 20 House candidates in 2020, Justice Democrats to 11 House candidates.
Plus Justice Democrats PAC spent more than $2 million in independent expenditures, Sunrise PAC almost $1 million.

(67,782 posts)...Brand New Congress.
And now Justice Democrats and Sunrise Movement have changed their status, they're now "Carey" Committees, meaning they can collect unlimited amounts of cash from any entity and not disclose all the sources of their contributions.
Textbook definition of "dark money".

(19,704 posts)but say a single word about someone being kind of old and the same people get really, really angry.
Apparently, young people are horrible for wanting to, you know, have a future.
George II
(67,782 posts)....that is funding them.
It is beyond belief that those young people could afford to travel from all over the country to gather in front of the White House to demonstrate. Where did the money come from? Is it all "progressive" money?
The fact is they're funded by Sunrise Movement, which is a "Carey" committee - funded in part by undisclosed dark money. Essentially they're using teenagers to do their bidding.
With respect to "contempt", please read the message from Sunrise Movement, are you going to say that is not laced with "contempt" for the President?
This is hardly the work of "young people", but a group of undisclosed people out to cause disarray. It should also be noted that in the previous four years there was not one demonstration in front of the White House by Sunrise Movement. Curious.

(58,785 posts)Don't imagine all young people are too stupid to know who've always been for and who've always been against stopping global warming. A or B. Only one party has ever lead and managed to achieve real action, always against the opposition of the other.
These kids show every sign of being the LW type who always claim to be for high ideals but must always oppose the powerful group with the ideals and plans to turn them into reality. They ARE a type, and every generation produces some. For most of these Sunrise unfortunates it'll turn out to be a lifelong curse -- every election they'll passionately emote over some LW issue, virtuously vote to defeat the LW party, and then despair over what's wrong with everyone else.

Demonstrating outside the White House had, as you know, its own problems in 2020, thanks to the authoritarian hiding inside.
But remember, the reason you feel your lawn has a poor future is those damn kids on it who aren't allowed to vote, not the climate-induced drought.

I know they did a lot of work supporting Ed Markey's reelection and I believe they took credit for his win (and I think Markey also gave them credit) but as a MA resident I'm not so sure that the storyline put forth about how an incumbent beat a Kennedy is factual.

(67,782 posts)....a 10+ minute confrontation into a 2-minute video using the most damning isolated comment. When asked why they did that, they claimed "oh, Twitter only allows 2-minute videos", which was totally false. You see videos of 5, 8, 10 minutes all the time on Twitter.
The fact is they didn't want anyone to see EXACTLY what Dianne Feinstein said or what she offered to do for them.
Their tactics border on emulating those of Karl Rove and the right wing.
