'gentrification' these days... the rich do find an eminent domain clause or some such BS, pay way less than the property is worth and then forcibly remove, 'legal' mind you because community leaders would get higher tax levy they are ALWAYS in on it.

Great amerikan way... "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" eh? Oh, I forgot POC are too lazy to pull themselves up...

There are better ways to improve a neighborhood than kicking all the low income and minorities out.

This article is two years old, but behold the shittiness involved.

Hilltop Mall in Richmond, CA has always been quietly failing for as long as I've lived here. However, they had a deal to bring in a Ranch 99 and develop the space. Then the pandemic hit, and the deal went south. The mall will be closed . . .

. . . to make way for new biotech firms.

Good luck, Richmond!

Yeah. It's gonna be ugly. Santa Rosa and other far flung communities can take in only so many economic refugees. Fairfield is starting to be massively developed (there is a lot of land there - it's a huge space). But if anyone thinks there's going to be low income housing involved, they don't know Fairfield very well. I guarantee it'll be mostly relocated tech workers who are now allowed to work from home.

I love living in the Bay Area, but it is the worst when it comes to accommodating low to middle income families.

Edit: The stinger at the end of this Black Jeopardy on SNL is too true. "Oh, well. The sound of white people shopping nearby for real estate means the fun is over."

The south has no natural lakes as glaciers did not make it down to the south. These lakes were made to stop flooding and provide drinking water . They were done by the Army corp of engineers. I think they were evaluated as the best place to put a lake in from a geologic and environmental practicality. There are many lakes in Georgia that are similar to Lanier. ( Alatoona, West Point etc)
