JUST IN: Capitol rioter Thomas Webster will be released from jail. He's the ex-NYPD cop in this video attacking police with a flagpole. (red jacket) Judge Amit Mehta said his behavior was "indefensible" and he "should have known better," but agreed to move him to house arrest.

So the end date of whatever prison sentence he ends up with will be further in the future than if he had remained in jail and kept building up time served.

So if -- and that's a big if -- his house arrest is effectively enforced, and his house arrest is burdensome/noxious to him, then the aggregate punishment ends up increased when it is all said and done.
