Would This Be Irony

As part of CNN's reporting on Donald Rumsfeld's death, it was mentioned that Rumsfeld died during the week that is "expected" to be the end of U.S. involvement in Iraq (I realize there is at least one report that has stated about 100 American soldiers will remain in Iraq). My first thought on reading that sentence was, "Is that irony". It just seems to me that it would be irony for one of the main architects of the Iraq War to die the same week major U.S. involvement ends in that conflict. However, irony seems to be greatly misunderstood. I constantly see people saying that things that others think is irony is not actually irony. So, is Donald Rumsfeld dying during this week irony?
