After 2024 (or 2028 if Biden runs and wins in 2024), each individual President may appoint one (and only one) new Justice, regardless of the number of Justices sitting. If a President resigns without having made a nomination, the Vice-President may make the nomination instead. In no case shall both be empowered to nominate a USSC Justice.
Nominees must be voted on by the Senate within sixty days of receiving the Nomination from the President. Failure to vote in that time period shall be regarded as Constitutional Consent and the Nominee shall take Office on day 61.
Nominations may not be filibustered.

(4,198 posts)They are both crooked as shit! But yes, expand the court and get some judges who actually believe in democracy.

(41,105 posts)Maybe as the old guard retires & the younger gen gain more power & say in the party, they will do something this bold, but IMO, the old guard has been slow to wake up to the threat the GOP has become. They have too many years of working with their colleagues across the aisle to see them as enablers of fascism. DiFi doesn't see our democracy in any danger. WTF?
No truer words
And when Pelosi stated recently "we need a strong Republican party" she was old-guard sincere.
They really believe in the two party institution, but they don't see what the GOP has become.
Bring on the young ones!

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
