Kevin McCarthy asks why Democrats aren't holding hearings on COVID-19 deaths instead of Jan. 6

Before he denied threatening any of his members over joining the Democrats' January 6 investigation, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy wondered aloud why the opposition party is not investigating the COVID-19 pandemic death toll.

"Did we have any hearings this week in regards to the 600,000 Americans who have been killed from COVID and where it came from?" the California Republican said at his weekly press conference.

McCarthy was referring to China and the Wuhan lab leak theory, which some Republicans have claimed amounts to a bioweapon attack despite evidence only supporting a possible origin from gain of function research.

President Joe Biden has also asked the US intelligence community to look into the origins of the virus after China resisted international calls for transparency through most of 2020.

Why can't we do both?

Exactly. That was my first thought when I read the headline.

Really Kevin? Do you and your swamp rats really want to go there? Because it's not merely the source of the virus. It's the incompetent response to the virus that led to 600,000+ Americans dying.

But please, carry on because I do think we need a thorough and transparent investigation on the hows and the whys of the Covid-19 outbreak, the source and response.

And Kevin. You're not going to like all the findings.

I'm pretty sure Madam Speaker will strongly consider taking him up on this suggestion.

Let's kick it off with a full investigation & prosecutions for this aspect (while people in the USA were dying!):

I agree that one is needed (for both) and I don't think that it's going to be something that he and other Republicans and TFG would make them look good.

Are you really sure you want this? Don't worry, we'll get there soon enough. Priorities, you know?

Regardless of where it came from, the real problem in this country was how it was handled by the Federal government, and that was the main cause of the failure in stemming the spread of the disease.

Lemme think now - who was in charge in 2020? And whose incompetent son-in-law was put in charge? And who went around recommending people shoot up with bleach and use light bulbs internally?

Sure, Kevin: let's have some hearings. I'm sure Nancy can cope with more than one select committee at a time.
