(12,918 posts)Based on the linked article, they didn't wait. They first received the report saying there were problems at 2 pm, evacuation was ordered the same day.
This building is about 7 miles away from the one that collapsed. The collapse is probably why this evacuation was ordered as quickly as it was.

(10,943 posts)... already moved. I'm lucky to have a family member that would take me in... I guess there are people with no easy way to leave. I hope they can get help in Florida.

(10,943 posts)... many people buy condos and rent them out, for investment and income. They would get notice as owner, and not tell their tenants.

(778 posts)That Crestview condos is about 5 miles away from Champlain and is about 10 years older. I'm not sure that Champlain North or east have even had a mandatory evacuation.
Osceola County had a mandatory evacuation in Kissimmee within this last week, too. Same problems with structure and of course, it isn't Oceanfront, but they had a bad evaluation.
