(13,806 posts)Whenever I see "defund the police," I assume its source is anti-Democrat and anti-Progressive. The tweet content could be the bait. I don't disagree with it. But the foolish DTP heading might be the intended "propaganda payload," as it is destructive to the good side. If we don't know who this person is and can't vouch for them, I'd be very concerned they are pro-Trump, pro-Russian pawns. This is the world we live in wrt social media unfortunately.

In other words, she's an activist, not a mealymouthed politician.
It would do our side better to work with activists instead of alienate them.

(13,806 posts)I applaud removing the Confederate flag and, as I said, the content of her tweet in the OP. That doesn't mean she's not a Russian or Trump pawn, witting or unwitting. It doesn't mean she's not a fool or mere attention seeker.
Read the heading she put on her tweet. It's foolish and devastating for the cause of the good side. The fact that she has a "name" (to some who may confer status too blithely) only makes it worse.
If Bill Cosby, Ralph Nader, or Edward Snowden backed the athlete at the center of this controversy, I don't think it would be considered a good thing, although it would get a lot of retweets. The tweet quoted in the OP is not the kind of support the athlete or the Dems need. It's arguably harmful to both, arguably an attempt to gain publicity by the tweeter at the expense of the athlete.
Name recognition means nothing. Gravitas and a track record, however, do mean something.
