There are now *binders full of tweets* about Romney's comments about hiring women

There are now binders full of tweets about Romney's comments about hiring women:

Romney on workplace inequalities: He reviewed ‘binders full of women’ for cabinet

Mitt Romney responded to a question from Katherine Fenton about inequalities in the workplace by pointing to the women he hired as governor of Massachusetts:

Thank you. An important topic, and one which I learned a great deal about, particularly as I was serving as governor of my state, because I had the chance to pull together a cabinet and all the applicants seemed to be men. And I — and I went to my staff, and I said, “How come all the people for these jobs are — are all men.” They said, “Well, these are the people that have the qualifications.” And I said, “Well, gosh, can’t we — can’t we find some — some women that are also qualified?” And — and so we — we took a concerted effort to go out and find women who had backgrounds that could be qualified to become members of our cabinet. I went to a number of women’s groups and said, “Can you help us find folks,” and they brought us whole binders full of women.

The “binders full of women comment” set off a storm of tweets, a trending hashtag (#bindersfullofwomen) and a parody account, @romneys_binder, that has already racked up more than 11,000 Twitter followers.

That had to be one of the most disastrous answers I have ever heard. I am surprised Obama did not call him out on it. I am sure plenty of folks will bring it up going forward. I was watching with my two daughters (an aspiring engineer and doctor), and boy were they offended.

I think that the President was wise to leave it alone.

and we are more than ready for them to move out of the way for more enlightened people. May your daughters never have to confront this, but I am glad they are prepared to recognize BS and call it out.

There were so many things wrong with his answer that it would take forever to list them all, such as what does it say about Mittens that his staffers thought it would be perfectly fine to present a pool of candidates that included no women (and probably no people of color) in the first place?

Tiresome and stupid and sometimes rather depressing. Sometimes even degrading. Hopefully it's dying out. Too many of us women are NOT going back.

I understood what he meant. This was not a big deal. I was trying to figure out later what the reaction was about. I even asked that question in another thread. I think there are other things to discuss regarding the debate.

But I was thinking about the way he said it, not the content, or meaning. I thought that was what had everyone upset. Of course, the content does say a lot about how he views women.

@Sanity_insane1 My wife won't let me look through #bindersfullofwomen . Maybe Mitt can get multiple Mormon gals that way.
