https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.kansascity.com/news/business/health-care/article252579068.htmlA hospital in Springfield, Missouri, ran out of ventilators for its patients over the Fourth of July weekend as the area, right in the middle of a COVID-19 hot spot, deals with a rise in cases.
On Monday, Mercy Springfield hospital officials reported that more ventilators had arrived, a second COVID-19 ICU unit was opened and that more respiratory therapists are needed to help the tired ones working now.
Situations like that, public health officials say, are avoidable if people would get vaccinated.
and they arent alone
The gap in progress between highly vaccinated states and those lagging in vaccinations keeps growing.
Parts of the South, Southwest and Midwest are starting to see surges, said Dr. Jonathan Reiner, professor of medicine and surgery at George Washington University.
Florida is getting hit particularly hard, with about 17% of all new cases in the US being reported out of the Sunshine State, he said.
Do
People will continue to die until we vaccinate everybody, Reiner said.
And for young people who dont think they need to get vaccinated, Reiner said his hospital has seen plenty of young adults suffering from Covid-19 or complications of long Covid months after infection.

Denial is a potent obstacle... sigh...
I'd dearly love to take them through the historical old cemeteries to view those gravestones of the countless numbers of all ages who died during the Spanish Flu. There was no "rural" safeguard.

(9,998 posts)I honestly couldn't care less about those who choose not to get vaccinated without a medical reason.

(13,479 posts)but please remember that there are parents of under 12 year olds who worry about their kids who can't be vaccinated yet. While I know my daughter will most likely be fine if she gets covid, i have an underlying fear about what the long term effects may be. Can't wait to get her vaccinated so we can all be dead ends.

(9,998 posts)That age group should be worried about.
The problem is if a variant comes around that the vaccines are ineffective against, none of us are going to be "dead ends."

In the meanwhile living relatively carefully, Masking in public. Trying to maintain small social circle of trusted vaccinated families.
