Chime, a neobank serving millions, is racking up complaints from users who cant access their cash. The company says its cracking down on an extraordinary surge in fraudulent deposits. Thats little consolation to customers caught in the fray.
The day after Jonathan Marreros federal stimulus payment landed in his bank account, he took his 5-year-old twins out for lunch at an Applebees near where he lives in New Jersey. When he went to pay, his only means of payment, a debit card issued by the hot financial technology startup Chime, was declined.
He didnt understand why. Marrero had checked his account earlier that day and saw a balance of nearly $10,000. With the Applebees server standing next to him, he quickly pulled out his phone to check his Chime app, just as he had hundreds of times since he signed up in January.
Marrero couldnt log in. He immediately checked his email and found a message from Chime that read, We regret to inform you that we have made the decision to end our relationship with you at this time. Your spending account will be closed on March 18, 2021.

There are potentially thousands of ears scanning and trying to crack that signal in the city.

(17,230 posts)An added bonus, I've never been hacked or had any banking problems. Last year I went to a credit union
that was offering a better rate on CDs, but they informed me I'd have to have an online account with
email because they went paperless. Left my CDs where they were. In this day & age of hackers I'd
encourage everyone to get any & all bank account & credit/debit card info off your electronic devices.

These fly by night fucking bank card assholes running these scams need thier operations to be made illegal period.
I told her to close that account now with those fuckhead thieves and to go to a real bank where your money is insured.
She was lured into that scam by thier promise of ease of use and no overdraft fees.
