madonna's "truth or dare" and republican "lying"

now that the parts of the media are, at least sometimes, identifying republicans (and donnie in particular) as liars, there's something about it that's not just a day late but also a dollar short.

somehow mere "liar" doesn't go nearly far enough.

there was a scene in madonna's "truth or dare" movie, which was, for its time, a fairly novel concept of documenting everything that went on in a celebrity's life. at one point, boyfriend warren beatty is cowering in a corner of the room with shades on, clearing pining for some private time with the cameras off, delivers this line:

(after Madonna declines to talk to her doctor off-camera) "She doesn't want to live off-camera, much less talk. There's nothing to say off-camera. Why would you say something if it's off-camera? What point is there existing?"

there's this flip of priorities here. instead of living a normal life and filming part of it, the whole point is to get filmed.

it's the same way with donnie and the whole right-wing lie machine. a "liar" is usually understood to be a fairly normal person who bends or breaks the truth a bit more than is commonly accepted. maybe even quite a bit more.

but donnie flips the priorities here. the *whole point* of talking is to lie. he's not interested in talking if it isn't to push some lie, some piece of propaganda that serves his interests.

think about it. when was the last time you heard donnie or the right-wing media or just about any republican these days say something that was just a basic, ordinary, unbiased truth. they're just not interested in that. the whole point of talking is to catapult the propaganda. the whole point of talking is to lie.

merely calling them liars doesn't go nearly far enough. they are propagandists. everything they say is a lie with an agenda.

he doesn't feel the need to take the time to push a truth, even if it serves him well.

he's *only* interested if he gets to tell a lie. that's where he figures he can "add value".
