create a "counter-narrative" to the Committee's findings. I have one simple and very obvious question.
How in hell do you know you will need to "counter" what the Committee uncovers and reports?
By taking that approach IN ADVANCE, are you not conceding that the unvarnished truth will tarnish your party---probably for decades?

These corrupt republicans can get f*cked.

(12,585 posts)The Democrats live in a fact-based universe. The Republicans live in a fantasy universe of denial and hatred. One of these things is not like the other, and we ignore it at our peril.

(36,048 posts)to fight the fact-based narrative with the alt-fact narrative. It's pretty consistent with all power theater -- make stuff up, shred structured norms of truth finding (commissions), truth telling (history), do nothing to make government a good, moral or potent force, and make people believe what you want them to believe, -- you'll be rich as you maintain the system that keeps your dark money owners hidden offstage.
Pelosi should refuse and say she's proceeded without him, that he's too little, too late.

(9,982 posts)A fucking shovel! A "counter narrative" is a fancy way to say Big Fat Stinky Lies, carefully painted to resemble truth, from a distance, in dim light.
When the committee announces its findings, a point by point refutation of the "alternate facts" should be appended.

(854 posts)So why haven't they begun their work already? Are they actually waiting for McCarthy to do his thing??
WHY?? Get on with it already. Enough with the bloody dithering. Why are you waiting for this unctuous fool for anything? All he's gonna do is delay, dither and whatever. Enough with being polite - just do it. Do these guys think for a moment that McCarthy and his band of fools wouldn't leave them in the dust if the shoe were on the other foot?? Haven't our guys learned a damned thing over the last few years as to how their opposition will eff them over in a heartbeat given the chance??? Stop playing nice already. Good Lord.

(854 posts)Biden was sworn into office almost 7 months ago. Enough with the Dems playing nice and all this collegial malarkey already with these Repub jerks. The Repubs had every opportunity to join in on a Congressional Commission and fought it tooth and nail, ultimately, and predictably, all voting no (with a very few exceptions).
Now lil' Kevin is having second thoughts? Playing nice is only going to come back and bite the Dems in the butt while the Repubs will play every dirty trick in book to delay, obfuscate and muddy the waters. Get on with it already. Slow rolling this thing because it might interfere with your summer break should not be an option. The beginnings of the 2022 election cycle are already beginning.
The Dems should have a built-in advantage in this investigation, but the longer they allow the Repubs to string this along only serves to diminish whatever advantage they might have. To me, this is one of those rare moments where the Dems literally have a golden opportunity to hammer home and expose the perfidy and corruption of the Repubs to the electorate. They should be leaping at this no holds barred. Enough with the piddling and diddling. Screw the predictable whingeing from the opposition. And if you think for a second that if the shoe was on the other foot this isn't exactly what the Repubs would do? I know of this nice bridge that is for sale.
(And bigger picture? The Repubs have this idea that they, the minority party, and their screwing around with the states election laws, have this whole one-party rule thing in the bag. Blowing up, or away, any Jan. 6 investigation would be yet another brick in their wall of plausibility. And it should be said that this ain't their first attempt.)

(7,403 posts)Trump's words, like "fight like hell" are a harmless figure of speech to vocally protest, ignoring what the rioters said those works meant to them claiming you have to give equal weight to both sides. But McCarthy overlooks that Cheney might have something to say about what goes into the minority report. While not the Chair, she might be the most powerful member of the committee.

(18,632 posts)They will still win Republican votes and that's all that matters.
In red States where they lose they will count on the state government to cancel Democratic votes and install a Republican.
All that matters is winning and it doesn't rely on hearts and minds anymore. It's only about keeping the cult scared and angry.

(3,240 posts)In fact, there should be no "narrative" at all, just the truth. McCarthy is big on "narratives", but he can't keep them straight. First, he claimed Trump caused the riot; then he got his spanking in Mar- A- Lago and came back with a different story. He needs to be under oath to find out what's really going on.
