Hey Tuck, I just got done watching a segment of your show. You know, the one where you suggest that there should be a camera in every classroom in order to root out let me get this accurate civilization ending poison.

Im going to zig where you thought most teachers would zag. I welcome your Orwellian cameras in my classroom. Frankly, I dont know many teachers who would object to having people watch what we do. As a matter of fact, I hate to tell you this Tucker Swanson McNear Carlson, but most of us spent the last year having video cameras in our classrooms.
See, I think you believe that your suggestion that people see what happens in our classrooms will somehow scare teachers. The truth of it is that we have been begging for years to have people, such as yourself, come into our classrooms. I somewhat famously asked Ms. DeVos to visit a public school before she became Secretary of Education (https://www.huffpost.com/entry/an-introduction-from-public-school-teachers-to-betsy_b_5845e2fbe4b0707e4c8171a3). Its unclear whether she has yet to set foot in an actual public school classroom, but I digress. I sense that you think youll see all of us pinko teachers speaking endlessly about Critical Race Theory leading to and again, let me get this right, civilization ending poison. Ive been in a lot of classrooms (more than you I am willing to bet) and I think youre going to be disappointed on that front.
What happens in Americas classrooms is teaching and learning. Your spy cameras will see teachers and students working together to be better every day. Ill tell you what I saw on a tour of classrooms not that long ago. I saw a group of kindergartners trying to create bridges over running water with basic classroom supplies in a lesson about collaboration. I saw a high school literature class talking about the character development in The Glass Menagerie. I saw a middle school history class participating in group project where they had to solve problems in a fictional city, with specifics of how they would utilize resources and build public support for their projects. Anyone watching your cameras will see learning all day every day.

This is just one of the pedo extensions to it, much like how First Amendment Auditors try to film elementary school children, because it's their right to be on school property doing it. Then, when they get arrested for failing to show ID after harassing parents and children, they post the videos online to get others to fund them.

(12,153 posts)"civilization ending poison" should have a hyphen between "civilization" and "ending": civilization-ending poison.

When he sits there with his mouth agape it makes me puke in my mouth. Poor wittle trust fund baby. He is the perfect example for higher inheritance taxes.

(11,730 posts)You are correct with the misuse of the concept of "Theory". People have either ignorantly or deliberately misused the term. A theory is a comprehensive statement that summarizes a set of observed and rigorously studied conclusions based in the scientific method. You can argue that within social sciences, it is more difficult to use purely empirical methods (people are messy), however, anything that gets to the level of "theory" is based on empirically studied concepts.
People use Theory to mean "hypothesis" which is a preliminary guess about a set of observations. "It's just a theory" is likely a stupid and infuriating statement to anyone who accepts the scientific method as a way to get to fact and "truth".
Critical Race Theory is in fact, a Theory. It is a set of explanatory statements for the research that has been done into the presence and effect of racial bias and racism within the legal framework of the United States since its founding as a nation.
What idiot right wingers are spewing nonsense about is NOT CRT. It is as you say, History. The accurate history of the United States. The United States had done a lot of good in the world, but it has also done significant harm to Black Americans, to Indigenous people, and to various immigrant groups throughout our history. That is a part of American History and it is a part that ALL of us need to be aware of because the effects of those horrible parts of our history are still with us today.
Why is it, that I, as a person born here, to a family that is represented by more recent immigrants (1950's and 1960's) and family that has been in California since it was Mexican territory, why is it that I am always asked, "Where are you FROM FROM?" when I answer, The United States or California? While I am fully American, I am not seen as fully American depending on my interlocutor. I have an in-law that came to the US from Ukraine, blonde and green eyes. Came in the 2000's. She is seen as more American than I am or than her husband is. Her husband came to the use in the early 1980's and I was born here to naturalized citizens. This is the history of race playing out in the present. The effects of history on people's attitudes and perceptions of what "American" is.
This is exactly why an accurate and honest look at American history (warts and all) is necessary. But this is also exactly why people like Carlson want to prohibit that teaching. If people like me, or Black people, or Americans of Chinese, Japanese, Indian, etc...descent are just seen as essentially American, then the privilege that has been assumed by people considered "White" will be diminished or disappear.

(38,310 posts)She didn't like sharing a husband so she ran off with some monogamous guy she met on the street, possibly while shopping.
He was a surveyor. Both of them could do the math. They liked math.
Her polygamous Mormon marriage was null and void in the eyes of the Federal government so they married "for real" and homesteaded some land, which was U.S.A government policy in opposition to the Mormons.
Some of my wife's ancestors were here in North America thousands of years before the U.S. Army forced them across the new border with Mexico.
They returned in the twentieth century as "immigrant" farm workers.

(11,730 posts)Teachers are used to be scrutinized, regularly. Principals, district staff, etc... all have free reign to observe them at any time. As Kearney said, they have been on camera regularly for over a year now. We have seen videos of teachers acting a fool (typically right winger teachers stomping on the rights of students). I am sure that if the teaching of CRT was so widespread and flagrant, we should have a mass of videos of teachers telling White students that they and their parents are horrible racists. So, where is all the footage?
Carlson is an idiot. Unfortunately, so are most of his viewers. They buy this because they want to believe they are oppressed. This is a typical White Nationalist and/or fascist move. They have to have some kind of civilization ending struggle for them to feel validated in their stupid beliefs.
