John Dean, a central figure in the Watergate scandal that brought down President Richard Nixon, said Donald Trump just created a huge trap for himself with his latest court filing.
The former president on Wednesday sued Twitter, Facebook and Google for banning him from certain websites, claiming they could pay out trillions in damages.
Former cable TV host and sportscaster Keith Olbermann tweeted a reminder that even a frivolous lawsuit such as this one could lead to a days-long deposition:

I heard that 45 was asking people at Mar-a-Lago if they knew any good lawyers. Well, these "good" lawyers didn't seem to point out to him that a deposition would be a part of the process.

I am not a lawyer, but if he knows it will be dismissed without a need for depositions, then this is just a fund raising publicity stunt.

(26,014 posts)In the meantime, he will collect donations on his behalf and the noise about his free speech rights will rile his followers.
Never take anything Trump says or does at face value.

(14,725 posts)...which they are certainly milking to raise funds from the slack-jawed yokels who believe Trump.
But, checking the web site for the U.S. District Court of Southern Florida yields no information about any lawsuit filed.

Maybe in two weeks?

If he did already file he knows it won't go anywhere.

(3,546 posts)So it will get thrown out and he will be told to file in California, but he wont. This is just a gimmick to get donations, which is a weird thing for someone who claims to be rich to need from people who mostly arent rich.

(33,150 posts)The former guy is suing Facebook, Twitter, and Google for violating his 1st Amendment rights by keeping him off their platforms.
Perhaps someone should remind him that they're private companies to which the 1st Amendment doesn't apply.
Presumably Trump or his lawyers know this. The purpose of the lawsuit isn't really to win it. It's to give him more ammo for his incessant grifting -- raising more money from followers who are eager to show their support for him, now by "sticking it" to Facebook, Twitter, and Google.
The irony here is that in many respects Facebook, Twitter, and Google are mini-governments. They're monopolies with extraordinary power over both the economy and our personal lives. They should be brought under control -- but by antitrust laws and government action, not by a failed president who has used them to sow lies and inspire sedition.
That's my take. What do you think?

The only thing good about it is knowing how much being banned from his 3 AM shitter Tweetfest is bothering him.

Just an other way to scam more money from his idiot followers and get the tax case off front page.
