Do you let folks you don't know into your home without a mask?

I'm in the process of gearing up for a home remodel. My spouse and I are vaccinated and we live in an area that is highly vaccinated. My spouse thinks I'm being a little over the top in insisting contractors wear a mask in my home. This wasn't an issue until today when he let one in without a mask. Up until now, all have been respectful and have come masked. I wasn't there when he first arrived but when I came in and saw him I let him know that we wouldn't be using his company and that we didn't need to waste each others time. I am older and at high risk and even though I understand that the vaccine is highly effective I still feel it's disrespectful to enter someone's home without a mask as a business person. I know that life is moving along but am I still the only one who isn't really ready to embrace letting my guard down yet.

Nope. But you better make your expectations known with the company ahead of time. hlthe2b Jul 2021 #1

and I plan to stay that way. On another note...I got chills and fever over night and I have both Pfizer Vaxxes and socially distance the few times I do go out. I have kept masking indoors too. I am wary of taking my 87 year old mom out shopping tomorrow. Maybe if she sits in the back seat and windows are open, with both of us masking, she will be OK. We are all vaxxed and have been for months.

and I still wear a mask, especially when I'm picking up a load or delivering a load.
Like you, I'm in the high risk category, even though I'm vacced.
No, you're not the only one, and I see masks being worn frequently.

I haven’t let my cleaner, a lovely young woman, come back, because she “hasn’t had a chance” to get the shot. My neighbors have all been vaxxed, ever the trumpanzees. Barring an emergency, no one else needs to come in.

I didn't let anybody in my house until I was vaccinated, but, since, I've let a few service and installation personnel in to do work.

They have all worn masks at all times. Willingly. I do as well, to protect them.

Yes, I do have an exception for people working outside. It is blazing hot and bright out there and I doubt anything is going to live for very long. Seconds, tops. It is the single case where being masked or not probably doesn't make a difference as far as spread.

Must be masked regardless. For people I don't know.

The house cleaning service I use is vaccinated with proof and they still wear masks.

For people I know and know well - must be fully vaccinated to enter and a mask is optional. Not everyone feels comfortable without a mask and I'm OK with that. I still wear them when out and about.

An underground pipe was leaking, so the landlord who pays the water bill obviously wanted it fixed ASAP.

The plumber put on a mask when I requested it during the initial consultation, but he just removed it later.

I thankfully had just enough time, before the days of actual work, to put up plastic sheeting with painter's tape to keep the plumber's exhalations within a confined space away from me and most of the apartment. Turned off the central air and covered the floor vents too, to prevent his aerosols from circulating that way.

After that nightmare was over, some other guy was banging loudly on my door a few months later. I opened the door a crack, and he said that he was the repairman to fix my heater. Also not wearing a mask! I told him there was nothing wrong with my heater, and it turned out that he was at the wrong address.

Oh, and a cable installer wanted to come inside while unmasked in between those events too! Nope! He was never allowed in here!

The repairmen around here seem to love spreading their aerosols from house to house, as far as I can tell!

That's crazy rude to come maskless when we are in the middle of a pandemic. Especially if you live in an area where there is low vaccination rates. I have a box of individually wrapped KN95 masks on hand for this reason.

I insisted that they write into the contract that everyone working on the project would be fully vaccinated and would show their cards upon request. I got zero push back. The work hasn't started yet so how it really goes remains to be seen but I think the contract language should help. If someone cannot or will not show me his or her vaccination card, they aren't getting in.

They are doing this on their own, without my telling them to. I am SO glad to have them back.

I hope to have some more interior work done soon, and will tell the workers my expectations before they come to give me a bid. If they have a problem with it, they don’t need my business. 😷😷😷

Vaccines aren't 100% effective. I'm still wearing a mask in indoor spaces (aside from my home).

Keep a supply of masks on hand. If they refuse to wear one, they don't get in.

As for your spouse - I, unfortunately, have that issue too. It is a much harder issue to address.
