House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday mocked former President Donald Trump, referring to him as a "twice-impeached Florida retiree.""Twice-impeached Florida retiree — and de facto leader of the Republican Party — Donald Trump," Pelosi's office said in a statement.

Trump during a press event on Wednesday said the deadly insurrection was "unfortunate" and the Capitol riot suspects "are being treated unbelievably unfairly."

He is "decrying how rioters 'are being treated unbelievably unfairly' now that they are facing legal consequences for their actions," Pelosi's office said. About 550 people have been charged in the Capitol insurrection so far.

The House of Representatives in January voted to impeach Trump over his role in the Capitol insurrection, which made him the first president in US history to be impeached twice. The House first impeached Trump in December 2019 on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress for seeking election assistance from Ukraine.
