(37,449 posts)from the last storms, blocked storm drains, collapsed drains, flooding from rising rivers, etc. Water wins when it creates its own paths. There is still damage from Irene & Sandy not repaired in NYC.
Hundred years worth of dumping on and filling shorelines and wetlands, paving and concrete, exacerbate the problem created by man.

(28,749 posts)I think plenty was learned, subways have become more resilient, waterproof doors were instead on all tunnels and plans are in place to shore up the riverside parks/areas.
The city isnt going to move, it wont happen overnight.

(23,661 posts)Certainly all that water cannot be a good thing for the building supports and subway construction. Hope they do periodic assessments of any structures that are periodically flooded.

(22,035 posts)I was on my boat at the 79th Street Boat Basin and the rain was torrential. So was the wind with gusts over 40 mph. Then came the lightning which was spectacular but frightening. One boat was actually hit but no one was injured.
Crazy weather!
