we don't have a CPAC equivalent. They have something like that because they're more organized, and basically read from the same script and follow the same marching orders. CPAC gets ample coverage in large part because of how influential it is for the GOP, the high-profile speakers, and the asinine things that they say.

because that is what these ever more frequent and gavel to gavel covered gatherings are for = prosperity ministers who love trump as a born again exemplar of christian values.

Netroots Nations is the closest equivalent, but focuses more on policy and activism.

As for media coverage, CPAC doesn’t get a lot of coverage outside of political news sites. The coverage it does get is driven by the number of Government and elected officials who attend.

However, NN moved its location yearly to make it easier for more people to attend. That also made it easier to ignore, since it was more inconvenient for major media outlets, and politicians had to make a special trip.

CPAC, in contrast, planted itself in the DC area so that it would be easy for conservative politicians to attend and for major media's Washington bureaus to cover. Since it catered to such laziness, covered it was.
