A friend sent me a link to a video of some sovereign citizen being stupid and telling cops he isn't driving as he pilots his car down the highway he is traveling since he isn't acting in a commercial capacity. He didn't have a driver's license and the car had a homemade license plate, they finally got tired of his refusal to identify himself so they could ticket him so they busted out his window and arrested him. I then followed the YouTube links and watched 12 more sovereign citizens get their windows busted out for stupidity, I haven't laughed this hard in a long time.
I could use some laughter too!

(15,082 posts)The commentary was pretty funny too.
Can't lie. I skipped to the end where they busted his window. A person with a brain can only listen to that crap for so long.
Thanks for sharing.

(19,195 posts)As soon as your "private vessel" hits the Florida highway you agree to follow their rules. What a dumbass.
And he's going to take him to "common law" court.
And his children had to witness their father demonstrating what a total jackass he is.

(14,853 posts)You don't acknowledge government, so I guess that means someone else could just break your jaw and take whatever they want! Don't expect a government agency to protect you or to seek justice, because you don't accept such things! Right?!

(3,185 posts)I laugh my ass off watching those idiots get harassed by those dastardly road pirates. It really never gets old. If you really want a laugh, search for "Sovereign Citizen Bingo" on Youtube, then go right down that rabbit hole. Enjoy!

(22,478 posts)I've never even heard of this sovereign citizen thing before. But how can you be so stupid to think that just by saying these things that you won't get arrested?
I wish in the video that they had showed what happened after they broke the guy's window.

(3,185 posts)They have a whole "body of law" that they cite, thinking it exempts them from having to obey the law like normal people do. Their basic gig is, "I have all the privileges, rights, and freedoms, but none of the corresponding responsibilities." They use specific terminology, too. For instance, they don't drive, they "travel." It's some weird, weird shit.
I don't think I'd call them anarchists, since they're not in favor of having no overarching form of government. They just think government has no power over them.
Believe me, cops absolutely hate having to deal with sovereign citizens. That said, they also love arresting and charging them with anything and everything they can think of.

(34,065 posts)They are citing actual law. It just doesn't apply to the situations they are trying to apply it to. So anarchists would simply reject the law. They are playing within the system as they believe the system works.
I've actually had to draft serious judicial opinions in response to appeals from these guys. It is way harder (and more time consuming) because you can't just say, "you have not cited any law to support your position." Since they are citing actual law, we have to meticulously explain why the law they are citing has nothing to do with what they are citing it for.

(567 posts)Arguably Hobbes was a philosophical anarchist, in that he acknowledged that our natural state is anarchy.
He just thought that was bad, and The Leviathan preferable, even when it grows tyrannical.
The Kropotkin-loving crowd? More communist than anarchist.

My favorite is the woman who kept citing Article IV of the Articles of Confederation as authority that she was not bound by any laws. It was lost on her that the Article in question didnt say that, and was superseded by the Constitution in any event.

Like conservatives, they are saying "I've got mine, and fuck you."
Somebody compared them to a barn-full of feral cats.
The sovereign citizens are all that... but with fewer teeth and much lower IQ.

Kids: It was really neat. Like watching one of those teevee picture things about the bad guys.
Mom: Oh, you saw the police arrest a bad guy?
Kids: No, we watched Grandpa get his window broke and his ass beat by the sheriff.
