Unfortunately a lot of the funding is earmarked for Lunar and Mars manned space exploration, and not enough is directed towards satellites beneficial to earth and to robotic exploration of the planets and their moons.

Humans should strive to do great things. Lunar and Mars missions will expand technology, spur innovation, and inspire minds to pursue science and technology careers.

Many "hard science" types will argue that unmanned missions and satellites are better and more efficient science, and I won't disagree with that. But we must not forget the human element. I entered aerospace not because of all the good science being done or technology being developed, but because I was inspired to be part of something great... something that expanded humanity's reach.
