with Pfizer and Moderna shots didn't get very sickSix fully vaccinated people who attended an outdoor wedding in Texas in April came down with COVID-19 - a small outbreak that underscores how effective US-authorized vaccines are against even variants of the virus.
Though the vaccines made by Pfizer and Moderna may not knock out every COVID-19 case, especially now that the more infectious Delta variant dominates across the US, they are very good at preventing serious illness and death from COVID-19.
A preprint study from Baylor College of Medicine found that only people who'd gotten an Indian-made vaccine, Covaxin, fell severely ill after attending the 92-person wedding near Houston in April.
The wedding took place in a "large, open-air tent" before the Delta variant was circulating widely in the US, the study said. Everyone in attendance was required to be fully vaccinated.

(6,477 posts)doesn't this simply mirror the generally accepted vaccine effectiveness rate? There were 92 people in the party, and 86 fully vaxxed people did not generate any illness at all? While six had non-serious positives? Isn't that a 94% effectiveness rate?
Um, yeah, that's what we already thought about the vaccines, no?

Sounds like "proof" to me.

(13,582 posts)fully vaccinated people won't spread it, and that they can. I'm not sure where we're at on that now. If a fully vaccinated person can get it, even a mild case, that means they can be spreading it I guess, so everyone may have been vaccinated. It also doesn't work on everyone as far as I know, and most of us aren't tested to make sure we have the antibodies. Another reason to lay low even if vaccinated. I don't know for sure that I'm protected.

(1,602 posts)but they are doing what they are supposed to do - reduce the contagion of the virus enough to make it harder for COVID-19 in any form to spread. I think this summer should be a good test - people are beginning to move out of lockdown, people are interacting more without masks. and they are relaxing social distancing requirements. My suspicion is that those areas where most people are vaccinated will see very little uptick in new cases, while those areas that aren't are already showing a rise in new covid cases and hospitalizations.
