How little $/hr does one have to make in order for the "gov't handouts" to make it not worth working

So an ongoing complaint on the facebook group in my neighborhood is that the trash pickup is sometimes days behind. The company recently came out and blamed the "handouts and difficulty finding good employees". I found a job listing on indeed for the company and they seem to pay their trash collectors $100/day, which ends up being a little over $10 / hr if they worked 9 hour days (they probably work more).

all other social issues aside (child care , elder care, retraining, etc) how much money does one have to make at minimum to make it worth not having to work this kind of job? how much extra is the government handing out a month during this time? i genuinely don't know and have not seen any kind of calculator online. i want to shut these assholes down for good and am tired of hearing these boomers bitch about the trash, which i agree does suck, but the trash company really just needs to start paying more.

Of right wingers bitching about how government “handouts” are discouraging people from taking crap jobs for low pay. Let the ones complaining take them if the jobs are so great.

...that the people whining about government handouts have no trouble at all with the fact that we are all forced to participate in the economy -thus driving wages down.

Tje ones complaining are also the ones that like to talk about “the free market”. Well now the workers are setting their own market right?

What does daycare charge for a toddler these days?

Thinking after gas and hassle factor maybe left with $50?

that's the AVERAGE cost of the daycare around here. we're not sending them to the most cheap or the most expensive.

It would be about $15/hr for me to break even on that not including ANY OTHER EXPENSE... i'd rather just stay home w/ them if i made that little, or even a little more.

Depending upon where you live, that's like paying double rent or mortgage. Ridiculous.

Trust me i know sending them to all-day daycare is more than my mortgage. one of the financial benefits of covid to my situation was that my wife and my employer are extremely flexible. when covid hit, we pulled them out of day care and we watched them as we worked from home, with them screaming and crying (both 1 yr old at the time) during our meeteings. everyone was understandable. we saved a ton of money. we finally had to hire a college student to help us watch them and babysit while we worked toward the end of the year. daycare is almost as much or more than sending a school age kid to a private school. how do people expect lower income families to shoulder this burden?

you cannot collect funds from the government just because you decide not to work.

less. I just had an argument with neighbor and my point is jobs at 15 an hour and more (barely a living wage that covers month expense) has 100 to up to 250 apps. People want tot work but not desperate and taking slave age jobs,
