(14,487 posts)We need your help during this historic moment to protect voting rights
Can you make a donation right now so we are ready for anything Republicans try to throw at us?
We dont know how long its going to take to beat back Republican efforts to suppress the vote or how long we will be away from home during this quorum break. Thats why Trey and Democratic Texas House members need your help.
Chip in now to help fund hotel rooms, flights, and getting our message out during this historic moment. Every donation prepares us for what comes next.

(19,558 posts)You feel some pride at our scrappy Texas Dems! I know I do.
We're trained to be fighters down here. We deal with way too much crap and have learned how to adapt and, apparently, draw national attention to vital issues. I wish them all the luck in this vital National fight. Hopefully it advances the voting rights act, that's literally all this is about right now.
#GoTexasDems ❤️❤️
I so love your sig line.
I also agree with you. Go Texas Dems!

(19,558 posts)It's been too long! My thanks, my heart and as always my love to you. I hope all is beautiful in your life. ❤️
Texas Dems are doing their best, as we all should, to bring attention to the voting rights act. I do deeply hope it helps.

(19,558 posts)On edit: Literally, that's what all of this is about. They went to DC to be active lobbyist for this very reason. Give them credit due. Other states Dems just failed. They deserve their praise for attempt to garnering national attention to the cause. Eyes matter. The more the better I've been told.

(65,227 posts)Wisconsin Democrats on Thursday fled the statehouse in an effort to prevent legislators from reaching a quorum and passing a bill put forth by Gov. Scott Walker (R), which would cripple the collective bargaining rights of public unions.
The move produced a frantic political drama, as state troopers were reportedly sent out to find the fleeing lawmakers and Walker hinted that the National Guard would be called in to fill the void left by protesting union workers.
One Democratic senator told the Associated Press that he and his fleeing colleagues are currently in Illinois.

(32,715 posts)Something in their constitution or some law that says its criminal not to form a quorum? Why do I doubt that?

(3,622 posts)Seems to me, if you're arrested you can refuse bail...
Refuse bail you can't show up to work...
Not at work...no quorum...

(94,384 posts)It's not a felony for which there's jail time; the Texas Marshalls can "arrest" members of the Legislature to compel their attendance.

(36,744 posts)They have no power of arrest in other states. If they are in DC, then DC would make the judgement whether or not to arrest and extradite based on the warrant.

(19,558 posts)He cannot force them, as he knows, back into Texas at this point.
It's basically a waiting game and all their special session legislation is up in the wind. Either they negotiate in good faith, or we crowd fund their extended vacation. Meanwhile, people are paying more attention to the voting rights act. Which is ultimately what this is about.

(1,351 posts)I just don't see how arresting on camera is possibly going to do anything but elevate the cause and make Abbott look like the *sshole he is. You know the Democrats will be anticipating this (the arrest) and have a plan for talking points, etc. The media will be all over this giving the Democrats a platform for those talking points. And maybe, just maybe, the Senate Democrats grow a pair!
