2. He played Lucius Aelius Sejanus, a nasty piece of work from the reign of Tiberius.

One of Patrick Stewart's best early bits of acting is the scene in I, Claudius in which Sejanus appears before the Senate to hear what he thinks is a letter of promotion from Tiberius, only to discover to his horror that the letter calls for Sejanus' execution.

The look of growing disbelief on his face is marvelous to watch.
