GETTING VACCINATED!!
All it took was a long time plant operator at her work to be hospitalized and currently on ventilator, but at least it scared the shit out of her.
As I was helping her schedule the appointment, she turned and looked at my dad and said, "I am booking yours too", "you are over weight with high blood pressure and there is no way you'd survive it".
DUH, if you'd change the channel off of Fox News, you'd probably be better informed.
I hate it has come down to this, but I am very thrilled about it.

(66 posts)He was feeling bad, and he and his wife proceeded to go on their annual trip to Vegas. He started getting worse, and his partner called to let him know he just tested positive. So instead of them immediately going to the doctor, they flew back home and he wound up testing positive and being hospitalized for pneumonia.
So not only is his life on the line, there is no telling how many others he has put at risk due to his pure negligence. The wife too!
I bet it doesn't surprise you the individual owns a gun shop as well.

Both our mothers are early 70's and both watch Fox and one is left and one is right, both very vax hesitant
I wonder why ????

Does not make sense to me.

(41,129 posts)serious precautions until the 2 doses are effective- usually about 6 weeks. Wear masks, esp. in crowds and around people with unknown vaccine/health status.
The Delta variant is highly contagious, you can catch it by just walking by someone with it breathing, so I've heard. Good luck.

(10,828 posts)Just make sure they get their follow-up shots, then they should be good to go. Maybe the delta outbreak in these Republican holdouts will light a fire under the stubborn Trump supporters. My question would be:
Would you die for him?
Because if not, a genuine medical threat is coming to your doorstep. Covid has no political affiliation. Contrary to the dude at CPAC claiming vaccines are against nature, that we're suppose to periodically die off, I believe sane people utterly reject that stupidity.
Congrats to your mom for seeing the light.

Another reason Joe demonstrates the uselessness of 45 in an emergency is that the Fed has quantities of four different versions of 'booster' shots in reserve. Trump had a bunch of Hydroxychloroquine.

Probably not as effective as seeing a friend at death's door, though.

(82,849 posts)Bank this experience. Give your mom and dad props for getting vaccinated, positively reinforce their decision: "I'm really glad you two decided to get the shot. I want you both around for as long as possible."
Now, bank it. Stick it in your back pocket, and when some other nontroversy gets ginned up, pull it out: "I know you think climate change is a massive hoax*, but remember the Covid vaccine and how you changed your mind on that?" Their change of heart on vaccination becomes the lever, the wedge, to move them off the schneid.
*Or whatever Fox-bred hobgoblin has taken up residence in their brains.

He got vaxxed.
Why?
His wife made him.
All that bravado, and then a meek "Yes, Dear".

But yes, I am happy for you and your parents that they are doing the responsible thing. I hope they get their immunity before COVID catches up with them.

(1,685 posts)Fucking Guy ( TFG) only has one claim to fame and that is ConMan liar and a cheat. So I always think what kind of a stupid person would only listen to him and the other Republican idiots that think it's a political thing to not go out and get the vaccine. YOU are the one who are going to get possibly very sick or die from this thing if you catch it and if you didn't get the vaccine you are a fucking idiot. Not to mention all the other people you indanger if you contract this disease.

(2,024 posts)They will need to experience Covid personally, either through a family member or close acquaintance getting it, or by contracting Covid themselves. And even then, a good portion of them will remain in denial about the seriousness. or even the existence, of the disease.
The Delta variant, with its efficiency in spreading and with its targeting the unvaxxed, including young people, may be the most effective means of convincing people to get the vaccination.

(3,286 posts)I'm glad for you and the family!
But boy, think of what it takes to see the death numbers climbing to 600K, and... just not believing them? Is that what they think, that those people didn't die?
Maybe we just don't truly believe it till someone close to us is affected, but that seems... well, not really modern. Back before TV and radio and interstate travel, maybe we were mostly confined to information that we witnessed in our little villages. But... now?
