"War has been declared on democracy, and we will support anyone who stands up to defend it," President Johnson says.

"We are fully invested in good trouble.”

"Freedom is not a state; it is an act. It is not some enchanted garden perched high on a distant plateau where we can finally sit down and rest. Freedom is the continuous action we all must take, and each generation must do its part to create an even more fair, more just society." ~ John Lewis

"Get in good trouble, necessary trouble, and help redeem the soul of America."
— Lewis speaking atop the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, on March 1, 2020

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., fourth from left, foreground, locks arms as he leads a march of several thousands to the courthouse in Montgomery, Ala in March 1965. From left are: Rev. Ralph Abernathy, James Foreman, King, Jesse Douglas Sr., and John Lewis.

Lewis dedicated his life to protecting and advancing the rights of Black people in the United States.
He was beaten and arrested as a Freedom Rider in the early 1960s, he galvanized seas of people alongside Martin Luther King Jr. at the 1963 March on Washington, and spent nearly four decades championing the causes of marginalized communities as a member of the US House of Representatives for Georgia.

4. It's not an arrest in the criminal sense that would require bail.

It's involuntary detention and being brought back to the legislative chambers to conduct business.
Much discussion of this on local Houston media.

(virtually due to choosing to maintain COVID protocols). Tomorrow is the last day - https://naacp.org/events/112th-naacp-virtual-national-convention

So I expect this is also to get some attention to their involvement in and discussions about the assault on voting rights. That includes one of several concurrent discussion sessions - in particular, one on voting rights going on right now at post time (listed under "Week 2" ) -

Tuesday, July 13
