I am thinking the Federal Government is going to have to take Mar a largo via Eminent Domain so that President Biden has the use of the Winter Whitehouse. Then the Secret Service will not have to pay those crazy bills to stay there when the President is there. TFG can stay there when the President is not there but there will be no more padding his pockets.

(90,764 posts)The "Winter White House" is any home the current president might vacation at during the winter (other than the actual White House or Camp David).
The Federal government was left Mar a Lago in the will of the original owner. The Federal government didn't want it. It was returned to the Post foundation. Then it went up for sale - Trump eventually bought it. Just because he called it (or anyone else called it) the winter white house doesn't mean it's the actual/official winter white house.
As long as Trump gets a protection detail, he'll continue to bill them/the government. Whether it's Florida or New Jersey or New York or Virginia or Scotland or Ireland. Grifters are going to grift.
(former) Presidents get a protection detail for life (changed in the 90's and changed back under Obama) - unless they decline it.

(8,329 posts)That said, the Secret Service does not need to stay there to protect him, they only need to Post there. Lard ass can bill them for putting an office trailer on his properties, although, I would further contend that as long as lard ass continues to grift, then they should take the property necessary to carry out their mission to protect the former guy. If he was in a private home, the Service would not move in.

(90,764 posts)I would think that some limit could be imposed on costs by Congress. Because he will grift all he can as long as he can.
Again, sorry.
