6-story Jesus statue in Ohio struck by lightning

MONROE, Ohio - Hundreds of sightseers drawn to the remains of a six-story-tall statue of Jesus Christ that was struck by lightning and erupted into flames stopped Tuesday to snap pictures or gaze at the ruined structure.

The "King of Kings" statue, one of southwest Ohio's most familiar landmarks, had stood since 2004 at the evangelical Solid Rock Church along Interstate 75 in Monroe, just north of Cincinnati.

The lightning strike set the statue ablaze around 11:15 p.m. Monday, Monroe police dispatchers said.

There are 13 colossal statues of Jesus and the Apostles. From the roof (where you go after going to the top of the Cupula, there's a gift shop that also has some snacks) you can get pretty close to the back of those statues and you can see very clever lightning rods and metal strips for grounding built in to them.

The Roman Catholics know to put lightening rods on stuff and not make statues out of flammable material.

Evangelicals are so dumb.

Because lightning does strike buildings. Builders 200 years ago even knew that!

I'm surprised lightening hasn't struck down the whole serpent tongued lot of them.

He is a builder like his dad is a builder. They take their name and slap it on other people's work. They are the most useless family in America.
