https://www.rawstory.com/clear-creek-community-church-outbreak/The pastor of a Texas church publicly prayed for God to end COVID-19 after at least 125 children and adults contracted the virus at a student ministry camp, where masks reportedly were optional and most children were old enough to be vaccinated.
"Lord, we didn't want to be in the news, at least not for this, maybe for serving or some extreme generosity, but not this," Pastor Bruce Wesley of Clear Creek Community Church said in a video posted online. "So we ask for your mercy. We ask for your healing for all of those who became sick with this virus and for their families who've have been caring for them as well. We pray for complete recovery so that people don't have any lingering effects, and we pray that you would put a stop to the spread of this virus."
You pathetic loser, why should Jesus help you when you would not help yourself? And the first thing you are worried about is "being in the news?" Not just a pathetic loser but a dickhead as well.

(955 posts)living embodiments of the moron from the flood parable. God sent you idiots social distancing, masks, and finally vaccines. Do they expect Jesus to descend bodily from heaven, knock on each one of their doors, and personally tell each one what to do? What happened to not testing the lord thy god?

Its things like this that started me seriously questioning my involvement with religion. I asked too many disturbing questions, got lame answers like, Well, god works in mysterious ways my Sonand after a time, found myself shunned for daring to ask such things
Got into good college (go Gators!) and saw firsthand that Science left little for a god to do and no good place for him to hide. Since we havent seen hide nor hair of this god, He may as well not even exist at all.

(7,769 posts)...if nobody dies Jebus saved 'em.
...if somebody dies it was "God's Will" which is inscrutable. HE "has a plan", and it cannot be fathomed unless you are "one of the chosen."
...if everyone dies Jebus has "delivered them" in the rapture.
The bottom line... Jebus is always right. Only the pastor has a pipeline to Jebus. Keep the collection plate filled so that the pastor can spread more of "the word."
And if he needs a private jet to do it...well that's just Jebus' prosperity gospel being realized with "the chosen."
Rinse and repeat in the great Church of Dumbfuckistan!

(57,055 posts)9Then he brought Him to Jerusalem, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here. 10For it is written:
He shall give His angels charge over you,
To keep you,
11and,
In their hands they shall bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.
12And Jesus answered and said to him, It has been said, You shall not [g]tempt the Lord your God.
Pretty clear case of "pride preceding the fall." What makes him think that the miracle he was looking for wasn't PPE and vaccines?

(12,165 posts)God gave him free will. And what this dumbass did, using his free will, was to create an environment where people would catch a disease and die.
Free will is a misunderstood innovation, really: Christians are culpable for their bad decisions. All of the leaders of megachurches in California who sued to cram people in enclosed buildings for services are responsible for creating an environment of sickness and disease. There was nothing divine about it.
Christians who dissuade others from taking the vaccine are leading people down a deadly path. These Christians are filled with wickedness.
I grew up in a fundamentalist household with Church three times a week; I do really well when there's a Bible category on Jeopardy. What I learned quickly after leaving the small town I'm from is that the arrogance of fundamentalists and evangelicals is breathtaking. They believe they are smarter than the unknowable force they claim to worship. At least Catholics believe in the idea of mysteries (though the ritualized, cannibalism alchemy is quite bizarre).

(16,348 posts)I really don't understand the mindset that God decides who to help or heal based on how many people pray the loudest or the longest or however it's supposed to work. I just don't get it. Is he supposed to be sitting up there keeping score or something?
I'm not an atheist, but I was always taught that God helps those who help themselves, not those who ignore all the things they could have done to help themselves and expect him to just... fix things FOR them.

(10,749 posts)We who are not true believes often hear people like you tell us that your god brings, well, pretty much everything, good and bad, and it's up to you to respond appropriately. If he brings good stuff, then you revel in your joy. If he brings bad stuff, then you bear the pain and come through on the other side thanks to your prayers (and, of course, god's weird randomness).
I may be off on some details, but I think that's the gist of it.
So. . . god brings the Covid-19 virus (again, according to your world view). That's one of the bad things, and you bear the pain and pray.
But. . . do you think it's possible, just maybe a little bit possible, that god also brought you the wisdom of the doctors and scientists who told you to get vaccinated and wear a mask? I mean, if you're gonna buy into the god being responsible for stuff, then why this thing and not that? Maybe, and I'm just spitballing here, you're a hypocrite who chooses to follow your political leaders on life and death issues that they know nothing about, rather than your god, who delivered wisdom and guidance through real-life smart people who said, hey guys, get vaccinated and wear masks.

(11,155 posts)"There once was a man who lived in a two story house. The house was near a river and unfortunately the river began to flood.
As the river rose, warnings were given via radio, TV and shortwave. Large jeeps drove through the area to evacuate people. As a jeep drove by the man's house, he was told:
"You are in danger. Your life is at stake. You must evacuate. Get in the Jeep. Let us help you evacuate."
"No," the man replied from his doorstep. "I have faith. I will be ok. The flood won't get me. God will take care of me.""
